It is quite easy to format a block quote. The Chicago Manual of Style is one of the styles you can use to format the block quote. There are slight differences between the 3 styles of block quotes.
Step 1: For quotations longer than 3 to 4 lines, use a block quote.
If the material you are quoting is more than 3 lines of verse, you should use a block quote. If the text is more than 4 lines, use a block quote. The first line of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" is longer than 3 lines, so you should use a block quote. If you are quoting a paragraph from Great Expectations, it could be an example.A block quote is used if the paragraph is more than 4 lines.
Step 2: The quote can be introduced with a short sentence.
There is a colon at the end of the sentence that leads up to the block quote. When the quote is a continuation of your thought, use a colon. There is a way to show what the author said."In his novel White Jacket, Herman Melville argues that there is a difference between cinema and photography."
Step 3: Without quotation marks, add the quote on a new line.
Block quotes do not need quotation marks. You have to start the quote on a different line.To create a new paragraph for your quote, press enter. For example, your quote might say, "My interest in photography took a more cultural turn."I liked photography in opposition to the Cinema, but I failed to separate it.The question grew more pressing.I was overcome by a desire to learn what photography was all about.
Step 4: The quote is from the left margin.
The entire quote should be separated from the rest of the paragraph by a block of text.Press the Tab button on your keyboard if you want to highlight the whole quote. The tabs on the ruler can be moved to the right. The first line of each paragraph should be 4 inch (0.64 cm).
Step 5: The quote should be double-spaced.
Double spacing is called for in the main body of the paper. The spacing is needed for the block quote. The original line breaks should be kept if you are citing more than 3 lines of poetry. The fox can jump over the hill.Setting slowly is different to dipping the sun.Pool 2.
Step 6: The author and page number should be added at the end of the quote.
You should put your citation after the last sentence.Don't write "p." or any other abbreviation before the page number."I was overcome by an "ontological" desire: I wanted to learn at all costs what photography was "in itself."(Barthes 3)
Step 7: Write on a new line.
Press enter to start a new line after you have finished the block quote.Keep your normal margins if you are continuing in the same paragraph. The first line of a new paragraph should be 2 inch.
Step 8: Blocks of quotes that are 40 words or longer can be used.
You can use a block quote based on the number of words. If you count the words in your quote, you can see if it has more than 40.Use a block quote if it's true.If you want to know how many words are in the quote, you can highlight it and click "Word Count" under "Review" or "Proofing."If you are quoting a long paragraph from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, you should use a block quote.
Step 9: The quote should be introduced with a phrase.
The signal phrase tells your reader that you are going to cite a quote. There is a colon at the end of this phrase. There are 3 ways to introduce a block quote. The year in the text can be stated at the beginning of the sentence. He said to only name the author in the text at the beginning of the sentence. You have to put the year in parentheses next to the author's name. The author should not be named at the beginning of the sentence. Some studies disagreed with the findings.
Step 10: The quote is from the left margin.
The quote should start on a new line.Press the tab once to highlight the quote. You can move the tabs on the ruler above the document. The entire quote needs to be read in its entirety. You don't have to use quotation marks for the quote. The first line of the quotation should be 2 inch (1.3 cm) larger if you are citing multiple paragraphs.
Step 11: The quote should be doubled-spaced.
In APA style, your entire paper should be double-spaced.To double-space the quote, highlight it.Click on the button that says double or 2.0 line spacing.
Step 12: The citation should be at the end of the quote.
You may need to put the author, year, and page number of the quote, depending on how you introduced it.Put a "p" before the page number in order to separate them. This citation should be put after the last sentence in the quote. You don't need to include the page number at the end if you named the author and the year in the signal phrase.Jones found that the scent of lavender reduced stress by 20%.The exposed individuals had lower heart rates and blood pressure. The amount of time it took for subjects to fall asleep was reduced by lavender. The scent of lavender reduced stress by 20%.The exposed individuals had lower heart rates and blood pressure. The amount of time it took for subjects to fall asleep was reduced by lavender. The author, year, and page number need to be included in the parentheses at the end of the sentence if you did not name the author. One study found that the scent of lavender reduced stress. The exposed individuals had lower heart rates and blood pressure. The amount of time it took for subjects to fall asleep was reduced by lavender. In 1998, p. 112 was written by Jones.

Step 15: The quote should be introduced with a signal phrase.
The sentence might say who said the quote or give an argument for why it's important. The quote should end with a colon or a letter. If the quote continues your thought, use a colon. If the quote is simply used to show what the writer said, use a comma.Jones said that in response.
Step 16: On a new line, start the block quote with no quotation marks.
The quote should begin on a new line after you introduced it.The quote is different from the other text.
Step 17: The quote should bedented from the left margin.
For most computers and writing applications, you can highlight the quote and hit the "tab" button. You can slide the tabs on the ruler to the right.

Step 19: There is a parenthetical citation at the end.
After the last sentence of the quote, place the footnote or parenthetical citation. The author's name, title, location of publication, publisher, and date should be in the first footnote. For example, Mary.Smoking can affect the body.Harvard University Press was published in 1984.A parenthetical citation might look like this:
