It is easy to clean a dishwasher. To clean the outside, use a damp cloth or sponge and wipe it down.To clean the inside, check the drain. You can run the dishwasher for a short cycle on high temperature with nothing but a cup of vinegar inside. Then repeat, but use a coat of baking soda on the bottom.
Step 1: The garbage disposal should be run.
The dishwasher goes into the same pipe as the sink. Before you start cleaning the dishwasher, make sure to run your garbage disposal to keep the drain clear.
Step 2: The drain should be checked.
The dishwasher has a bottom rack.Look for clumps of debris that could cause the drain to malfunction. It's a good idea to remove anything that might be blocking the drain. If you can easily get to the drain, use some soapy water to clean it.
Step 3: Run the wash with water.
The top rack of the dishwasher has a dishwasher-safe cup on it.Pull the rack out of the dishwasher and close the door.Turn the dishwasher on and run it on the highest water temperature setting if you have the cupful of vinegar inside. The dishwasher will smell better if the grease is loosened and the odor is removed. It's a good idea to use distilled white vinegar for cleaning.
Step 4: You can wash it with baking soda.
Sprinkle the bottom of the dishwasher with baking soda after the first wash cycle. You can run the dishwasher on a short cycle.Baking soda can be used to remove dishwasher stains.
Step 5: Along the door, wipe the edges.
There is debris around the dishwasher door. Some dishwashers can't adequately clean this area, which leads to an accumulate of yucky material. To wipe the area down, use a damp cloth. To clean along the ridges of the seal, use a damp cotton swab.
Step 6: The filter needs to be cleaned.
The dishwasher filters large debris from entering the drain. The screws that hold the grate in place will need to be removed with a screwdriver. Some newer dishwashers have filters that pop out when turned. The water in your sink is warm. The toothbrush should be dipped in warm, soapy water. The toothbrush can be used to scrub the filter. After the cleaning, replace it.Not every dishwasher has a filter. If you have access to the dishwasher, try to clean it every 3 months.
Step 7: The utensil rack needs to be cleaned.
The dishwasher rack has a small container attached to it.You could have one on each rack.Remove it and rinse it in the sink.To clean the inside and outside of the utensil rack, use a sponge with warm, soapy water. If the utensil rack does not detach, you can clean it with a damp sponge or dishcloth.
Step 8: Do not use bleach to clean your dishwasher.
bleach can cause the steel to oxidize.Use dishwasher-safe detergent instead.
Step 9: The spray arms should be removed.
There are two spray arms under the rack of the dishwasher. Each rack needs to be pulled out.Remove the central bolt that holds the spray arms in place. They are easy to twist off by hand. The top spray arm is usually located at the bottom of the dish rack. The bottom of the dishwasher has a spray arm attached to it.
Step 10: Take the spray arms off.
Take the spray arms to the sink.Run them under water.Water can be found in the central hole and along the entire length of each spray arm.
Step 11: To clean spray holes, use a toothpick.
There are small holes along the top of each spray arm.Water is ejected from these holes when the dishwasher is running. They might become stuck with gunk over time.To keep them clear, poke a toothpick through each hole. Each spray arm has spray holes.
Step 12: Look at the grain of the steel.
There are small differences in the surface of the dishwasher and other products. The grain of the steel is the flecks or striations. To determine what direction the grain is oriented in, you should conduct a close visual inspection of your dishwasher. It could be up/down, left/right or both.
Step 13: You can wash the outside of the dishwasher.
In warm, soapy water, dip a sponge or dishcloth. It's a good idea to move it along the surface of the dishwasher. If the grain of your dishwasher is oriented up/down, you can wipe it with a sponge or dishcloth. If you want, you could use a specially-formulated cleaning product.Bar Keeper's Friend is a popular product.
Step 14: The dishwasher needs to be dry.
You can dry the dishwasher by using a dry sponge or dishcloth.Move the cloth or sponge along the direction of the dishwasher's grain to wipe away the soapy water. If the grain of your dishwasher is oriented in a certain direction, you should move the dry cloth or sponge up or down.
Step 15: Don't use cleaning materials that are abrasive.
The exterior of your dishwasher should not be cleaned with cleaning solutions that contain chlorine. This could cause a problem.Do not use steel wool or other harsh cloths as it could lead to scratching the surface.
