A lawsuit was filed against the Institute in Basic Life Principles and its board members.The lawsuit was filed by five women who claimed to have experienced sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and inappropriate/unauthorized touching while working at IBLP.One of the law firms that represented the case was owned by the son of an IBLP member.IBLP conducted an internal investigation about sexual abuse allegations in 2014, which the plaintiffs felt was mishandled.IBLP's founder, Bill Gothard, resigned on March 5, 2014, after the initial internal investagtion.[16]
