You can balance your tires before you go out on the road.If you add weight to the tire's lighter end, you'll be able to enjoy a more stable ride.
Step 1: Take the wheel off the motorcycle.
The centerstand is a good place to hold the motorcycle.Turn the wheel's lug nutscounterclockwise with a wrench.Remove the wheel from the motorcycle.The motorcycle has a centerstand underneath it.The owner's manual has instructions on how to engage it.
Step 2: A static balancer is placed on a flat surface.
Online or at tire and motorcycle shops, static balancers can be purchased for about $100USD.The machine can be put on the ground or on a table.Pick a spot that is stable.There are also dynamic balancers.Your wheel is tested electronically by these devices.They are often used in tire and repair shops.
Step 3: The balancer needs to be tested with a level.
To test the balancer's evenness, use any level from a home improvement store.Attach the level to the bar with masking tape if it doesn't stay put.If the balancer is not level, move it to different places.A magnetic level sticks to the balancer's bar.
Step 4: The balancer can be moved onto the wheel.
The balancer has a metal rod on top of it.Pull one of the cones off the rod.The wheel should be put on the rod and pushed onto the cone.
Step 5: The other balancer cone needs to be put back in place.
The balancer has a rod.Push it forward until it fits inside the sleeve.The wheel should be between the cones and centered on the rod.The tire will stay in place if the cones are wedged into the wheel.
Step 6: The rim needs to be degreased.
Pick up a bottle of a cleaner from a store.Put a clean cloth in the solution to wipe off the rim.The balancing test can be affected by debris.The balance test results can be skewed by debris on the wheel.It is easier to clean the wheel after placing it on the balancer.The wheel won't collect extra debris if you reach all sides.Old wheel weights are included in debris.Before attempting to balance the wheel, pull off any old weights.You can use nail polish remover to treat stubborn debris.
Step 7: Take the tire out and wait for it to stop.
If you spin the wheel, it will turn 2 or 3 times.Touch the tire with your finger if you use too much force.The heaviest part of the wheel will be at the bottom when the stop is complete.
Step 8: The lowest part of the wheel should be marked with tape.
Remove a small piece of masking tape.It should be positioned in the center of the rim.To mark the wheel's lowest point, fasten it in place.You can mark this point with chalk.The low point is marked by drawing a small line on the tire.
Step 9: Attach a wheel weight to the rim.
Purchase wheel weights from a tire shop.The lightest part of the wheel is the highest point.The weight should be on the rim.The weight can be secured with a piece of masking tape.The sizes of the wheel weights are 5 g (0.18 oz) and 10 g ( 0.35 oz).The spokes have wheel weights wrapped around them.They are more expensive and less likely to come loose.
Step 10: Put the wheel in reverse to spin it again.
The taped side and weighted side are on the right and left when you spin the wheel.Let go of the wheel and wait for it to stop.The heavier side will come to the bottom.
Step 11: Remove weights from the wheel.
The lightest part of the wheel is always at the top.It is still too light if the part with the weight is on top again.You need to remove weight from that end if the weight ends up at the bottom.Remove any debris from the wheel.
Step 12: When the wheel no longer rotates on its own, stop adding weight to it.
When the heavy and light sides are on the right and left, it's time to test the wheel.The tire won't move if the wheel is balanced.The heavy side will not fall back to the bottom.To make sure the wheel is balanced, give it a few more tests.Move the taped end to different points and let the wheel go.If you spin the wheel gently, it will turn 2 or 3 times.The heavier side shouldn't fall back to the bottom.
Step 13: The weights need to be in place before the wheel can be replaced.
The weighted end should be brought back to the bottom.Press the weights onto the rim after removing the backing.Right beside the spokes, they fit on the inside part of the rim.Take the wheel off your motorcycle and enjoy the ride.You should attach the screw-on weights to the tire if you use them.Wrap them around the spokes, then slide the screws into the slots on their backs to hold them in place.
