A rough draft version of a final piece of art is called sketching. In preparation for a large piece of art, sketching can be used to get an idea of how it will look.Learning the proper technique can make sketching much more enjoyable.
Step 1: Get the right stuff.
It is difficult to sketch when using poor quality materials. The proper sketching materials can be found at a local arts and crafts store.Pick up all the right materials, including H pencils, by spending a few dollars.H pencils are used for sketching thin, straight, non-blend-able lines. These are used for business sketches. You can get an assortment of 8H, 6H and 4H pencils.B pencils.B pencils are used for making smudged and blurry lines and for shading your sketch. Many artists like these. You can get an assortment of 8B, 6b, 4b and 2b.The paper is fine art.The paper is thin and doesn't hold the pencil, making it hard to sketch on it.For the easiest time to sketch, use fine art paper with a bit of texture.
Step 2: You can choose your subject.
It is easier to sketch from a live model or image than it is to draw from your imagination.Look for an object or person around you to draw, or find an image of something you like. Before beginning to sketch, take several minutes to study the subject.Look for the source of light.Where you sketch the lightest and darkest will be determined by where the primary light source is.Look for movement.Whether movement from a real-life subject or perceived movement in an image determines the shape/direction you make your sketch strokes.Pay attention to the shapes. The basic shapes of the objects are square, circle, triangle, and so on.You should sketch the shapes that underlay your subject first.
Step 3: Don't press too much.
A sketch is a base for an image. You should use a light hand and lots of short, quick strokes to start your sketch. It will be easier to test out different ways of drawing an object with this, and it will allow you to erase mistakes as well.
Step 4: Do a gesture drawing.
A form of sketching that uses continuous movements and lines is called gesture drawing. It can help you to get a good idea of the basic forms in your drawing, and help to set a base for your final drawing. If you want to do a gesture drawing, look at your subject and move your hand to the side.If possible, avoid lifting your pencil and using overlap lines. You can erase the extra lines and make a better sketch later. This is a good way to practice a sketch.
Step 5: All the materials should be gathered.
Make sure you have enough light. You can draw on a napkin, on regular paper, or in a sketchbook in the middle of the city. You might want to try different versions of the same object to come up with a better one.
Step 6: Before you start sketching, practice some hand movements.
You can warm up your hand by drawing circles or horizontal lines.
Step 7: Start with an H pencil.
Light strokes are used with loose hands.Use minimal pressure to move your hand very quickly.Understand the paper you are working with. You should not be able to see the strokes at this point. This is the beginning of your sketch.
Step 8: The darker pencil is used for the next stage.
You can define your strokes more precisely with this darker pencil when you achieve the perfect shape in Step 3.Add more details.Add inner shapes.Make sure they are able to scale. You want to make sure that the entrances and parking spots are the right size when drawing a parking ramp. The lead on this pencil is softer than the previous one, which will cause smudges on the pages when you finish using it.The smudges should be removed with the eraser. The top layer of the page should not be torn off by the soft eraser you use.The putty will lighten your lines.
Step 9: Add more information.
Until you are satisfied that you have captured the perfect representation, perfect your lines and presentation.
Step 10: Your work needs to be sealed.
Fixative should be applied when you have finished your sketch.
