Creating your own pendant lamp is an easy and time consuming project. They're modern but simple and classic and can fit most décor schemes.Let's begin by thinking about the look you want.
Step 1: Prepare the area and collect your materials.
The project is time consuming and messy.Line your surfaces with a tarp or newspaper if you want to clear a big space.Let's get started after you grab all your materials. You will need an inflatable ball, string, and yarn.If you don't want to get in on the action yourself, you can use disposable gloves.
Step 2: You can draw a circle on the ball or balloon.
You can use a Tupperware lid to guide your tracing.Make sure the hole you install the light bulb through is big enough for your hand to fit through while holding the bulb. This hole will be used to take out the ball after completion. It should be about 6-7" (15-17.5 cm).
Step 3: Gluey mixture to make.
When it has the consistency of thick cream, you nailed it with a bunch of white glue, a handful of cornstarch, and some warm water. You can use a wide-brimmed bowl. You can use wallpaper paste as an alternative. It works the same.
Step 4: The ball needs to be sprayed in cooking spray.
If you can hang the ball, that's great. You have to do if you can't.The spray should cover the ball so you don't want to touch it.It works here as well. That is a bit more handsy. The principles are the same.
Step 5: Put the string into the glue mixture.
Take a yard at a time and squeeze off the excess with your thumb and forefinger.Wrap your string around the ball in a variety of patterns you think look good.A 220 foot spool is enough for a beach ball. You should not cover the circle you made. That is a no-go area. For attaching later, you need that open and string-free.Use as much string as you want if you are using a light-colored string. You may want to use less if you are using a dark colored string. It should be dry overnight. It will be nothing like you left it when you find it in the morning.
Step 6: Pull out the ball.
It's time to deflate it and take it out, now that you know why you put it in the first place. It's worth it now.If it's too big, stick your hand through the circular space with some scissors and cut it up into manageable pieces. The circle opening is the same one used to change the bulb.
Step 7: There is a piece of wire.
If you have an old lamp lying around, you can easily wire it up.Get to your local hardware store if not.You will need a piece of wire that is longer than the width of your opening. The ends must be wrapped together.
Step 8: Attach the wire to your lamp.
Take one end of the wire and twist it around.Take the middle, wrap it around the base of the lamp, and twist the other end back onto the ball. It's Tada! You should flip over if the hole in your ball is too big.Cut a small base into what used to be the top and repeat.Problem solved.
Step 9: Have your hanging sockets ready to use.
It gets a bit confusing here, where all your options come in.You can always hire an electrician if you don't want to tackle this part.Make sure the fixture is turned off.If you don't have a hanging sockets, you can make one. They're cheap to buy from IKEA.If you have a handle on what you'll be doing, you can make one.You will need 3 plain canopy kits if you think you have it.That will hold the cable in place and allow you to mount it to the ceiling with a longer extension cord.
Step 10: Begin making cuts.
To place it onto the fixture, you'll need a hole at the other end of the globe. There are a few snips to be made directly opposite the original hole. The ball will fall off if it's too large. To support the new hole you just made in your globe and to keep it from breaking under its weight, cut out a plastic ring at the top of the fixture.Anything that can be cut into a ring and has a bit of strength to it is a good example of this.
Step 11: Attach it.
Put your dome around the bulb and slide it in between the globe and bulb.If you don't like the look of the hanging wire, place a shower rod around it.If one side of the ball is more pleasing than the other, just move it.The pendant lamp is beautiful.
Step 12: You can color it if you please.
Remove the wire and bulb set.You can add color by grabbing a can of spray paint.
