On a hot day, you would rather have a frozen slushie to drink than an orange juice drink. The icy chill of a slushie can help cool you down and satisfy your sweet tooth.A few plastic bags, some ice, and some salt are all you need to make a cold slushie in 10 minutes. It is possible to make a hot day just a little hotter with other kinds of juice.
Step 1: Orange juice can be put in a bag.
A small plastic bag with a seal on top holds about 2 cups of orange juice. If you want to make a slushie, make sure the top of the bag is tight. You will have more slushie if you pour more orange juice.Adding more orange juice will make slushies for more people.Add a little less if it is for you.For a more tropical taste, combine the orange juice with pineapple or guava juice. You will need to fit your first bag inside of another one, so choose one that is about sandwich-sized.
Step 2: The bag should be placed inside of a plastic bag.
There is a plastic bag.If you put your bag full of orange juice into the second bag, be careful not to spill it.Make sure the first bag is really closed if you spill some. You can replace the gallon-sized bag with a Tupperware container that can fit the small plastic bag and some ice around it.
Step 3: A gallon-sized bag is filled with ice.
Carefully pour the ice into the second bag.The bag of orange juice needs to be completely covered in ice to keep it from getting cold.
Step 4: Take a lot of salt into the bag.
Shake the rock salt or table salt in the bag for about 5 seconds. If you want your orange juice to be super cold, make sure the salt covers the ice inside the bag.Salt lowers the melting point of the ice so it has to pull in heat from its surroundings.
Step 5: Seal the second bag and make sure it's not damaged.
Double-check to see that the bag is closed.Press down on the seal hard if it isn't, you could spill your slushie before you make it.
Step 6: The bags need to be wrapped in a towel.
Put the bag in the center of the kitchen towel. You can protect your hands from the cold by covering the towel on top of the bag.If you want to protect your hands from the cold, you can use oven mitts.
Step 7: The bags should be shook for 10 minutes.
Lift the bag up with both hands.Shake the bag vigorously and set a timer on your phone for 10 minutes. As the orange juice turns into a slushie, you might be able to hear it stop. The orange juice has a chance to fully cool down if you keep shaking the bag for the full 10 minutes. It could be too liquid at the end.
Step 8: Take your slushie and pour it into a cup.
Open the large bag when the bags are down.Pour your slushie into a cup or mug after taking the smaller bag out.You can decorate your drink with a straw or umbrella. You can use this hack to make a slushie. If you put ice and salt in the sink, it will melt down the drain.
