There is a unique appetite for insects, grubs and earthworms found in the marauder. As cute as they are, their appetite for garden dwelling insects and slithering invertebrates can cause issues for homeowners, and their digging habits can destroy a newly planted garden or a well-maintained lawn.Setting up a sturdy wooden or steel cage can be used to trap an armadillo, but you will need to release it afterwards.
Step 1: A steel cage trap can be purchased from a hardware store.
Choose a trap that is at least 30 in long, 10 in wide, and 12 in high. The perfect size for armadillos, steel traps are built sturdy enough to handle its strength without breaking if it starts to panic. It is cheaper to buy a steel cage than it is to build a trap out of wood. You won't have to worry about whether the cage is strong enough.
Step 2: It's a good idea to put the cage next to a fence or burrow.
If you put a trap in a place where the armadillo will wander in, they will not be interested in food.Place the trap outside of its burrow or by a fence to catch it as it wanders around the garden. If you put bait in the trap, such as earthworms, grubs or fruit, it will attract other animals and make it useless until you empty it and reset the door mechanism.
Step 3: Place wooden boards on either side of the trap.
Thecorridor is created by laying long wooden boards on either side of the trap. While it wanders around the yard, it will eventually find its way to the corridor, leading it into the doorway of the trap. One side of the corridor can be used by a fence or wall.If you put the trap in a corner of the yard, the armadillo will have nowhere to go.
Step 4: Consider using a net or catching it by hand.
It is possible to catch an animal with a net or bare hands, even if it is trapped in a cage.Stand outside the burrow at night and wait for it to come out, either throw a net over it or grab it by the tail and lift it into the air.If you catch a marauder with a net, it will destroy you. It's a good idea to wear gloves that cover your arms.armadillos have a strong sense of smell, but terrible eyesight, so stand downwind so you don't alert them to your presenceThe armadillo will stop thumping and die after a few minutes.Prepare to transport it by placing it in a closed container, like a cage or wooden box.
Step 5: Every morning, check the trap.
Every morning, check the trap to see if you have caught the marauder, as they are most active from dusk to dawn.If you let it stay in the cage for too long, you could cause it to go hungry and act out of desperation. If another animal has found its way into the trap, it is a good idea to clean the cage and relocate the animal. If the armadillo smells another animal's scent, it may avoid the trap.
Step 6: The trap should be in the trunk of your car.
Before you put the trap in the trunk of your car, you should put down a piece of tarp or plastic. You can block out light by covering the cage with a blanket.Don't put the cage in the back of a pickup truck, as the wind may irritate and disturb the armadillo, and you could hurt it if you hit the bumps on the road.
Step 7: If you want to find a natural area, look up relocation areas online.
There are special areas in some states that can be used to relocate armadillos. You can find animal control services in your area that can pick up the armadillo. If there is no area to bring it to, find a forested area.If vegetation is flourishing and there is a water source nearby, the armadillo won't want to come back and stay in its new home.
Step 8: Take the trap out of the car, open the door, and let the armadillo run away.
Open the front door if you put the trap on the ground. The armadillo can escape by itself if you back a few feet.It may take a while, as the animal could be frightened by the car ride.Don't try to remove the animal yourself as it may act out of desperation.Hold the rear of the armadillo to encourage it to leave the trap if it is particularly stubborn.
Step 9: Garlic and cayenne pepper can be planted around your garden.
armadillos like garlic and cayenne pepper, and they may avoid digging in your garden if it smells overpowering. If you don't have room for new plants, sprinkle garlic powder and cayenne pepper powder around the perimeter of your garden, as this will have the same effect.
Step 10: An armadillo's sense of smell can be triggered by placing mothballs around your property.
A musty, disgusting smell for armadillos is produced by ballons and they are thought to deter them from coming to your yard.If you want to stop the armadillos from coming onto your property, you need to spread mothballs around the border.Don't keep them in the house as the smell of them can be overpowering. Some pest control companies say that this is not an effective method, but they want you to use their services to get rid of the animals.Any hardware store or major retailer can sell the balls.
Step 11: Make sure your fence is deep in the ground.
The main way to get into a yard is by burrowing. If you have a problem with armadillos, you may want to uproot your fence and install a new one that is at least 1.5 feet deep into the ground. It takes too much effort to dig deeper than this.
Step 12: It's a good idea to treat your yard with an insecticidal agent to stop them from looking for food.
armadillos will look for a new place to live if you don't treat your yard and garden with insecticides, as they will not have any food to eat.
