I have come to the conclusion that when I started practicing yoga, I was drawn to my mat because it made me feel good and it was a great workout.I started teaching yoga after a few years of practicing it.Life and career changes, as well as the personal growth it would provide, were what I did not expect from yoga. After completing my 200 RYT in 2012 I began teaching at a local yoga studio.I was hired as a Mind/Body Intervention Specialist at Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.I teach mind and body relaxation techniques to breast cancer patients to decrease the side effects of radiation.

The Little Yogis program was created in the summer of 2014.Families expressed feelings of being powerless as they tried to comfort their child.Little Yogis was launched to address the needs of our children in collaboration with families at MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital. The MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospital has a yoga program called Little Yogis. Our goal is to alleviate stress and physical pain, improve quality of life and make cancer treatment more manageable for patients and their families.

My son, Detric, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma when he was 7 years old.He is still suffering from the side effects of chemo and radiation four years later.I realized after his diagnosis that Breast Cancer Awareness has a pink ribbon, but not many people know about Childhood Cancer awareness.I became a Childhood Cancer Awareness Advocate because I wanted to educate people about the signs and the need for money for research.

We stayed at the Ronald McDonald House while Detric was at Seattle Children's Hospital.I now do extreme couponing to provide items to donate to the Ronald McDonald House, as well as raise money for Childhood Cancer Research and the Uncompensated Care Fund at Seattle Children's Hospital.Every child gets world class treatment even if the family can't afford it, thanks to the Uncompensated Care Fund.

Detric is an Honored Hero for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and we go to schools to raise money for research.I am an advocate for more money for cancer research. My life's mission is to advocate for more funding for research, getting treatments for every child with cancer, and to help find a cure, because my son is my hero.

I am the founder of Headbands of Hope. One headband is given to a girl with cancer and $1 is donated to childhood cancer research for every headband purchased.

I worked at the Make-A-Wish Foundation when I was in college.I saw a lot of girls lose their hair to cancer, and they loved to wear headbands.Four-year-old Renee wanted to go to Disney World to meet Sleeping Beauty. Her doctors advised her to return home about a week before her trip to Disney World because her condition worsened.

She wanted me to come to her house and make her wish come true. She told me that she was at peace with her daughter's passing because she knew she had everything she ever wanted.

Everything changed for me at that point.headbands are the perfect way to help girls like Renee all over the world.

I founded HeadbandsOfHope.org in my junior year. We've donated to almost every children's hospital in the US.
