There is an easy way to store apples if you want to use them later on.Apples should be preserved using either lemon juice, salt water, or fruit preserver. You can keep your apples tasty for up to a year by placing them in a freezer safe container.
Step 1: The apples should be washed under clean water.
Place the apple under the faucet and use your fingers to scrub it clean. You can dry the apple off with a paper towel or cloth. The produce stickers should be removed from the apple.
Step 2: The apples need to be peeled using a vegetable peeler.
Use the peeler slowly, starting at the stem and working your way around the apple in a circle. The apple needs to be removed so that it can be sliced. If you are using a lot of apples, repeat this process. You can use a paring knife if you don't have a vegetable peeler.
Step 3: The core can be removed with a knife.
The apples should be cut in fourths and at the stem.To cut out the core of each slice, use the knife. The apples should be on a cutting board.
Step 4: The apple sections should be sliced into smaller pieces.
The number of slices depends on personal preference, but cutting the apple into 12 slices is a good size. You can slice them using an apple slicer, or you can cut them yourself with a knife. When slicing apples, place the apple sections on a cutting board. If you want to make an apple pie, cut the apple into thin slices or square chunks.
Step 5: The apples should be preserved as soon as you peel and slice them.
The apples can't be browning too quickly.Pick which way you want to preserve the apples, whether it's using lemon juice, soaking them in salt water, or using a fruit preserver.
Step 6: Use lemon juice to keep apples from turning brown.
Combine 4 cups of water with lemon juice in a bowl and stir it with a spoon. The apple slices should be put in the bowl with the lemon juice and water. The slices should be submerged in the lemon juice mixture. The lemon juice and water mixture shouldn't change the taste of the apples very much. The lemon juice has ascorbic acid in it.
Step 7: To keep apples fresh, soak them in salt water.
Put 4 c of room temperature or warm water into a bowl with 1 US tbsp of salt.Add the apple slices after the salt has dissolved.Take the apples out of the salt water after a few minutes.Make sure to coat the slices with salt water to keep them fresh. The salt prolongs the amount of time you can store the apple slices without them going bad or getting freezer burn. The apples may have a salty taste. The apples may be better if they are Rinsing under clean running water.
Step 8: The slices should be sprinkled with a fruit preserver to keep them fresh.
Purchase a fruit preserver from a grocery store and follow the instructions on the container to cover apples. The fruit preserver should be applied in an even coat to cover both sides of the slice.Fruit preservers shouldn't change the taste of apples.
Step 9: If you soaked the apple slices, drain them in a colander.
If the apple slices were put in a liquid to sit for a few minutes, drain the liquid from the bowl of apples. To make sure all of the liquid gets strained, shake the colander lightly. You don't want to remove the lemon juice, salt water, or fruit preserver from the slices after they've been treated.
Step 10: You can spread the slices on the baking sheet.
To prevent the slices from sticking to the pan, line a baking sheet with paper.Place the apples on the paper so that they are evenly distributed. It is important that the apple slices don't touch each other on the baking sheet or stick together when frozen.
Step 11: The baking sheet should be put in the freezer.
The apple slices should not slide off the baking tray if it is put into the freezer. If the slices are super thin or thicker, leave them in the freezer for about 3 hours. If you put the slices in a bag in the freezer, they will stick together.
Step 12: Take the apples out of the tray and put them in a container.
Place the slices in a plastic bag or hard plastic container after they are frozen. To prevent freezer burn, remove as much air as possible from the plastic bag or container. If you want to remember what the food is, you need to write the date on the container and put it in the freezer.Use your fingers or a spatula to remove the apple slices from the paper.
Step 13: The apple slices can be kept in the freezer for up to a year.
The apple slices should last several months to a year in a freezer-safe container. Before freezer burn starts to form, try to use the apple slices. If you want to thaw the apples, place the sealed container in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours or put them in a bowl of water. If you only plan on using a portion of the apples, you should remove the rest from the freezer.
