Automatic writing can be used as an exercise to help you increase your creativity or improve your writing, but it can also be a way to communicate with other entities.It can be a great exercise to transfer what's in your head to the page without restrictions.
Step 1: Decide on what medium to use.
Do you want to use a computer for automatic writing or do you prefer pen/pencil and paper?This is based on your preferences.If you can type faster than you write, a computer may be more helpful than a pen and paper.You can try out each medium to see which one is right for you.
Step 2: You can give yourself a question to write about.
If you are practicing automatic writing to improve your creativity, or to help yourself get started on a writing assignment, then it will be helpful to have a prompt of some sort.For example, you could write about a dream you had recently, or something that has been on your mind a lot recently.Maybe you have a problem or are excited about something.If you have an idea for a story, you can use it as a topic.If you don't know all the details of the story you want to write, you can just write about what you have.You can answer the question, "5 W's" about your topic.That is, who?What?When?Why?How?You could think about the topic you want to write about.
Step 3: Set a time.
10 minutes is a good start.If you set a timer, you won't have to wonder if you've been writing for a long time.10 minutes is a suggested starting point.Do so if you want to write longer.You should keep going until you feel like you've gotten it all out if you set your timer for 10 minutes.You should keep writing until the 10 minutes are up.Even if you don't feel like writing anymore.Your hand will eventually write something if you keep trying.You can write anything, even if it's not related to your topic.
Step 4: If you are able, close your eyes.
When practicing automatic writing, it's important to close your eyes.This prevents you from thinking about what you have written.If you feel that you will be tempted to peek at your work during this exercise, you might consider recording your thoughts on your phone or computer for later use.You are not allowed to stop writing to change what you have written if you find that you cannot write with your eyes closed.Do not cross anything out and do not stop.If your mind suddenly changes directions and you have to start a new sentence in the middle of a different one, then simply start writing whatever you are thinking.
Step 5: If you don't like closing your eyes, do a relaxing activity.
Before and/or during your writing session, you can listen to instrumental music, meditate, or take a guided meditation.It will be easier for the words to flow with this.If you listen to music while you write, you might be able to meditate.
Step 6: Begin writing.
As it comes into your mind, write it down.If it is unrelated to your topic, you should still write it.Pay no attention to any of the things that you would normally be concerned about when writing.These things are not important in automatic writing.
Step 7: Don't worry.
Give yourself a break after you have finished a round of writing.
Step 8: You should read what you've written.
Go back to what you wrote and read through it.Don't judge yourself harshly.It definitely won't be pretty, and what you have written may not make sense at all.
Step 9: Something that is interesting to you should be highlighted or circled.
You may find things that interest you as you read.You can highlight them or circle them to come back to them.If you feel like you want to continue the exercise, you can use these ideas.
Step 10: Continue with what you are writing.
If you feel like you are ready to move on to the next step in your writing process after using automatic writing, then you should do so.If you feel that you have moved forward, but still haven't gotten what you wanted out of the exercise, you can repeat as often as necessary.
Step 11: There is a place free of distraction.
In order to use automatic writing in a more spiritual way, you need a comfortable place where you won't be interrupted.There is no need to set a timer for this exercise because you don't have to do it for a certain amount of time.You should set aside 30 minutes to do your writing.
Step 12: Decide how you want to write.
Do you prefer typing on a computer or writing with a pen and paper?This is based on your preferences.Some people argue that it is better to use pen and paper, but you should stick to what you are comfortable with.If you don't know how you want to do it, try doing it both ways.If you use a computer, use the word processor you most typically use.It's possible to use Microsoft Word, NotePad, TextEdit on Mac.
Step 13: Clear your mind.
Do your best to clear your mind of all thoughts, for example, about what you have to do later in the day, things you are worried about, etc.If you are stressed out, upset, angry, or worried about something, then you should put off your session.If you are focused on a big issue, it will be hard to clear your mind.Take a few deep breaths, focus on the air going in and out of your nostrils, and how it feels.Is it cold or warm?Is it shallow or deep?You must practice clearing your mind.You will improve as you practice more.
Step 14: You should call the entity you want to channel.
This could be "spirit guides", "angels" or "my higher self".If you want to do this, you can either pray or meditate.Some think this is a good idea while others don't.Do what feels right for you.
Step 15: Close your eyes and look in the same direction.
Keeping your eyes closed will allow you to let your mind communicate more directly with your hand, and keep you from judging what is coming out on the paper or screen.You have to have your eyes closed for this method.If you don't want to close your eyes, focus on the wall in front of you.You will improve with time, even if you end up with nothing more than marks on a page.If the entity you are communicating with wishes to write, they will do so.
Step 16: The paper has a pen on it.
If you are using a computer, put your hands on the keyboard and type.
Step 17: Let them do what they want.
Write, draw, or type whatever comes to your mind.If you are using paper, this may mean drawing symbols.If you want to have questions answered, you can do this as well.Write down the question you want answered and then let your hand guide you to the answer.Don't try to understand what you are doing when you draw, write, or type.Let it happen.Do your best to let the thoughts flow and not try to control them.You won't be able to know when the writing session is over.If it begins to feel negative or uncomfortable, stop and keep going.
Step 18: Take a deep breath and think.
Take a few deep breaths when you are done with your session.If you want, you can thank the entity.
Step 19: Take a moment to look over what you have written.
You can see what's on the screen at this point.You should find something that makes sense for you.Try not to worry.Put it away for the day and try again tomorrow.This is a skill that requires a lot of practice.Even if you can't achieve the result you want, automatic writing is still a great way to strengthen your creativity.
Step 20: The writings should be kept in copies.
You can see patterns, ongoing messages or other connections over time.
