A pair of stinky shoes is one of the most embarrassing.Cheap and easy, getting rid of bad smells can be done.Baking soda is what it takes. If you don't plan on wearing your shoes for a while, this is best done in the evening.
Step 1: Measure out a small amount of baking soda into your shoes.
Baking soda is needed to cover the entire shoe insole. If you have large shoes, you may need to use more baking soda.
Step 2: The baking soda should be distributed across the inside of the shoe.
To spread the baking soda, tilt the shoe forward and back. You can jiggle the shoe from one side to the other. You want to make sure you don't spill any baking soda.
Step 3: It's best to wait a few hours or overnight.
Up to 24 hours may be required for extra-stinky shoes.During this time, the baking soda will remove odors. It may kill odor-causingbacteria.
Step 4: The baking soda needs to be removed.
When the time is over, turn the shoes upside-down over the trashcan or sink.Shake the shoes to get the baking soda out.It won't hurt you if there is some baking soda dust in the shoe. You can always vacuum it up if it's bothering you.
Step 5: The treatment of baking soda should be repeated.
You can repeat this once a week if your shoes get smelly frequently.Baking soda can cause leather to become brittle over time, so don't use it too often on shoes. If you have leather shoes that get sticky, leave them in aventilated area so that they can air out. There is a dryer sheet inside the shoe.
Step 6: The baking soda should be put in a small bowl.
A small jar can be used instead. It's enough for one treatment. You might want to double the amount of shoes you own.
Step 7: Drop 5 drops of essential oil.
It can make your shoes smell better if you use essential oil.Something that smells refreshing is what you should choose.Pine and cedar are great options.
Step 8: Take everything and put it in a container with a fork.
Put the lid on the jar and shake it.Continue stirring or shaking until you can't see any more clumps.
Step 9: Take a small amount of baking soda and put it in the heel of the shoe.
This may seem like a lot, but you shouldn't skimp on the baking soda. The smell will not go away if you don't use enough.
Step 10: The baking soda should go into the toe area if the shoe is tilt downward.
It will be hard to get the baking soda out of the shoe if you rub it into it.To spread the baking soda across the sole, you can jiggle your shoe.
Step 11: Allow the shoes to sit for a few hours.
If you allow them to sit for a full 24 hours, it would be better. The more baking soda you put in your shoes, the more odor will be absorbed.
Step 12: The baking soda should be thrown into the trash.
Once the time is over, turn the shoes upside down and shake the baking soda out.To get it all out, you may have to tap the toe area.Baking soda is not harmful if it is left inside your shoe.Any leftover baking soda can be vacuumed up.
Step 13: It's necessary to repeat as needed.
This treatment can be used up to once a week.If essential oil is starting to be a strain on your wallet, you could do a weekly treatment with just plain baking soda and a monthly treatment.
Step 14: You can find socks that are no longer being used.
The socks need to be clean and free of holes.
Step 15: The socks should be filled with at least 1 to 2 quarts of baking soda.
To get the baking soda all the way down to the toe area, shake the socks.
Step 16: Use a piece of string or ribbon to tie the ends of the socks off.
A rubber band can be used as well. The baking soda causes a bulge in the socks.
Step 17: Put the socks in the toe area of the shoes.
The baking soda will help absorb odors from your shoe, but the socks will keep them clean.Baking soda won't be a problem.
Step 18: The socks need to be left in the shoes.
You can leave them there for 24 or 48 hours. The baking soda will absorb odors during this time.
Step 19: Don't wear your shoes if you have the deodorizers on.
Baking soda will eventually lose its deodorizing power. All of the odors in your shoes will have been absorbed by it.Baking soda can last up to 2 months. If the baking soda has lost its deodorizing power, you will need to dump the old soda out and refill the sock.
Step 20: Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on flip flops.
If you don't want to mess up your floor, place your shoes on a tray or sheet of newspaper first.Wait 24 hours for the insoles to be covered with baking soda.Shake the baking soda off of the shoes. You can either wipe it off with a damp cloth or vacuum it up.
Step 21: Put the sandals into a plastic bag with baking soda.
Place the sandals in the bag first.Wrap the bag tightly and shake it.Take the sandals out of the bag after 24 to 48 hours.Shake off any leftover baking soda.It is best to only use this method on leather sandals.Your sandals may become brittle if you use it too often. If your sandals can fit inside, you can use a large plastic bag.
Step 22: There is a paste made from baking soda and water.
This will help scrub the dirt away, as well as help make them smell better.Combine baking soda and water in a small dish to make a paste.Use an old toothbrush to scrub the paste into the flipflops. After 5 minutes, rinse them with fresh water.Don't wear them again until they air dry.The old manicure brush can be used instead. If the flipflops still smell, you should use salted water.Salt has deodorizing properties. It's good for neutralizing bad odors if you use Epsom salt.
Step 23: Baking soda and water are good for soaking rubber flipflops.
The tub should be filled with one part baking soda and 10 parts water.Add the flipflops. It would be better to leave the flipflops in the water for at least 12 hours.Take the flipflops out and let them dry.It is possible to use this method on sandals if they can be washed or soaked. If the flipflops won't stay down, weigh them down using heavy jars or rocks. If you are using a shallow tray, place the flipflops face-down; most of the smell is in the insoles.
