A group of Marines who have completed extensive training in marksmanship, land navigation, mission planning, and other areas are known as the "snipers".Television shows and films with characters who are snipers have raised awareness of this position. It takes great skill and extensive training to become a real Marine sniper.
Step 1: The appropriate rank is reached.
To become a Marine sniper, you need to reach the rank of Lance Corporal and be no higher than Sergeant.Members of the Infantry, senior non-commissioned officers, and international students can sometimes be allowed to undergo sniper training.A lance corporal is equivalent to a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. After one or more years of service, you may be promoted to Lance Corporal. At the rank of Sergeant and above, applicants must have a temporary duty fitness report. If you want to become a sniper, your Military Occupational Specialty should be Infantry.
Step 2: Excellent vision.
You have to have good vision to successfully complete the tasks of a sniper. To be eligible for training as a Marine, you must have a vision that is correctable.
Step 3: Have you been cleared to do so.
snipers are required to be in excellent health, with no recurring illnesses or health problems, because the missions they complete can be physically exhausting. You will need a fitness test and health clearance before you start training.
Step 4: Score well on the ASVAB test.
To be eligible to be trained as a Marine sniper, you must score at least 100 on the General Technical section of the ASVAB, which evaluates your knowledge and potential in fields such as mathematical reasoning and mechanical comprehension.
Step 5: If you have a current Secret clearance you can get one.
Personal security clearances are issued by the Department of Defense.Secret clearance is needed before you can begin training as a Marine sniper. To get a secret clearance, you must be a U.S. citizen or naturalized citizen and work in a position that the Department of Defense deems necessary.Your security clearance may need to be renewed periodically.
Step 6: Receive a qualification for a rifle.
The Marines must qualify you at the expert level of rifle usage, because excellent marksmanship is an essential skill of any sniper.
Step 7: There is no record of getting a court marshall or NJP within the last six months.
Highly specialized missions are assigned to the Marine snipers. Those hoping to start training for snipers are expected to conduct themselves well.
Step 8: If you have at least 24 months left in the Marine Corps, you can be scheduled to deploy with your unit.
It takes a lot of time to complete the training for Marine snipers. You will need to make a long-term commitment to the service if you want to ensure that the investment of time and effort is worth it.
Step 9: There are no existing family or financial problems that would prevent you from going through sniper training.
Marines need great focus for training and service. It can be difficult to complete tasks if there are family or financial problems.
Step 10: Consider the completed training.
If you have certain qualifications, they may increase your chances of being selected for the program.Completion of Marines Corps Institute (MCI) or distance learning in the following areas are included.
Step 11: There is a battalion scout-sniper platoon.
Candidates who pass a two-week course are eligible for battalion-level training. If you served in a scout-sniper platoon, you may be able to attend a formal Marine Scout Sniper course. If you want to become a sniper, you should ask your superiors about battalion-level training.
Step 12: You have to pass physical fitness tests.
You will need to pass the physical fitness tests at a first class level if you want to join the Marines. It is a good idea to train before you take the tests.Flexed-arm hang, timed for women, is one of the components of these tests.
Step 13: Volunteer to attend a course.
One of the four School of Infantry locations is where you must complete a training course in order to become a Marine. The Marines Corps Base in Kaneohe, Hawaii is one of the places where these schools are located. To take one of these courses, you must volunteer and be selected by your unit, so talk to your superiors if you are interested in the opportunity. The Scout Sniper Course is a twelve-week training program designed to educate designated trainees in the basic techniques and equipment of Marine snipers. There are three phases.
Step 14: Phase 1 includes field skills and known distance marksmanship.
This phase will introduce students to basic tasks of snipers, including land navigation, functional fitness, marksmanship, and ballistics.Students will receive training in shooting a rifle at distances using the M40 series.Mission planning and orders writing will be covered in the course.
Step 15: Stalking and Unknown Distance Marksmanship is Phase 2 of the Scout Sniper basic course.
Students are exposed to knowledge and skills to engage with moving targets.Topics include camouflaging equipment, firing positions, and methods of engaging targets.By the end of this phase, students will be able to engage targets at unknown distances up to 800 meters.
Step 16: Mission Planning and Employment is the third phase of the Scout Sniper basic course.
In this phase, students are given instructions regarding the duties of each billet within a scout sniper team, in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan sniper missions.Students will be tested on their ability to plan, coordinate, and execute an assigned mission.
Step 17: Maybe you should consider being a spotter or a sniper.
The courses cover training for two roles, snipers and spotters.Depending on your skills and your unit's needs, you can either train or serve.A sniper makes fires from long ranges.Stealing and surveilling are also done by snipers.Spotters determine the range and wind conditions on a given target. They also conduct research.
Step 18: You have to complete an advanced course.
A four-week course is offered by the Marines Special Operations School. This is a great way to improve your skills.Basic skills, ballistic training, and live firing are offered in Block 1 of the course. The practical application of equipment is one of the things Block 2 trains snipers in.Foreign weapons, glass shooting, unknown distance shooting with various rifles, and the shooting of moving targets are covered in Block 3.Block 4 gives qualification through a score based on four drills including barricade shooting, day and night shooting at an unknown distance, and spotter qualification.Block 5 covers aerial sniping, explosives breaching, side-prone shooting, high-angle shooting and vehicle hides. The final exercise of Block 5 is a four-day scenario in which a Marine Special Operations Team kills targets.
