Become powerful.

Powerful people are put into positions of power by other people, but that doesn't mean they stay inactive. To become powerful, you'll need to show how you act like authority and influence people. In order to influence people, you may have to win over friends. Step 1: Look for the right role. If you put yourself into a position that feels natural, you will be able to become powerful. If you want to power from the middle of the field, you have to find something that you feel comfortable doing.Even if those roles aren't directly related to the field you want to become powerful in, you should try to put yourself into leadership roles that you feel comfortable maintaining.Even though you want to become powerful at the office, you might lead a small group at your church. You can develop a more powerful personality by being in positions of authority. It can carry over into other areas of your life. Step 2: Realize past sources of power. You've probably experienced moments of power in the past, even if they seem small compared to the power you're seeking. You can meditate on the sensation of power they once evoked when you feel your resolve starting to shake. You can deal with almost any aspect of life if you remember the moments. You could choose a notable academic accomplishment, like graduating with honors, or a personal one like successfully quitting smoking. The point is to focus on the sensation of being powerful rather than the actual event. Step 3: The person should adopt a powerful posture. Powerful people use expansive body language that takes up more space. This type of body language can make other people see you as a more powerful person.Expansive body language can include crossing your arms, stretching out your legs, or holding your hands to your hips. When you do things like folding your legs beneath your chair, dropping your shoulders, or holding your hands to your sides, you demonstrate constricted posture. Step 4: Before you become powerful, act powerful. It will take a lot of self-confidence to do that. You will probably be waiting indefinitely if you don't have the power to back your claims. If you are afraid of making changes or taking risks, you should act as if you aren't.Power works in cycles. When others see you as a powerful person, they will grant you power that you didn't have before. Step 5: Stay true to who you are. Know what you want and go after it.Don't pursue a course of action just because it's popular.Don't broadcast your path constantly.Doing so makes it appear as though you're seeking approval, which puts you in a less powerful position than the others you seek it from. Step 6: Break the rules. Don't be afraid to think outside the box and break social conventions.A leap of faith is required for innovation. It is possible to suggest to others that you are a powerful enough person to get away with violating a minor convention.Understanding which rules need to be kept and which can be broken is the key.As a general rule, only break a rule that needs to be broken since each set of circumstances can vary greatly.Look for areas that could be improved upon if the current rules were stretched a bit and see what you can do to break free of unnecessary restrictions. Step 7: It's shoulder responsibility. Don't point fingers or dwell on the past when things go wrong.Accept responsibility for the mistake in the present and make the most of the situation.Powerful people aren't afraid to admit that failure is a part of their life story.Accepting it and working to correct it is the key.If you reply with a simple, "I'll take care of this," you can demonstrate more power. Step 8: Don't forget to pay attention to your own well-being. Your physical and mental well-being is included. You won't give off a powerful presence if you're not at your best. It's easy to take care of your physical health.Eat well, exercise and get a good night's sleep.Taking care of your mental and emotional health can be difficult, but you should take time to relax and connect with the people that matter to you.Don't let the quest consume you if you're chasing power. Step 9: Expectations should be set. Make your own decisions instead of waiting for others.Set the pace of each interaction by being straightforward about your demands and desires. If you want to do something, state your plans without asking for confirmation.Even if you made the first move, stating your expectations first will allow you to claim the more powerful position in the interaction. Step 10: People should be treated with professional courtesy. You need to be willing to give in order to demand respect. You need to demonstrate your understanding of the key fact that the other party's time is just as valuable as yours. The golden rule is to treat others the way you want to be treated. If someone was running late to a meeting and didn't warn you in advance, or if you did someone a favor and he or she did not offer so much as a single thank you, you would not like it. Step 11: Keep people informed. If you want to become powerful, you need good communication.People shouldn't have to worry about what will happen. If your positions were reversed, you should give them all the details. If you're researching something for someone and have told them that you expect to hear back from them by Tuesday afternoon, you need to contact them.If you don't have an answer, you need to let that person know that you still intend to follow through, even if you do not have the answer. Step 12: Be clear. Communication leaves little room for error. In the least confusing way possible, explain something. All of the important details need to be worked out before the matter can be dropped. If you want to avoid disasters, detailed communication is important.Everyone should be on the same page.Communication that is clear will reduce the amount of finger-pointing that results from misfortune since no one can claim that they didn't know. Step 13: You should anticipate needs and demands. Don't wait for someone to ask before completing a task. You will demonstrate a high degree of capability if you can anticipate an upcoming need before it becomes urgent.Sometimes you need to wait for instructions before acting. It will take time before you know how to act on your own if you have a new job.You need to avoid forcing people to ask you the same thing over and over. The person receiving the results will probably be frustrated if they have to remind you multiple times. Step 14: You should engage yourself. If you're looking busy and distracted, you won't look as powerful as you think.Make sure you pay attention to each person you talk to.The people in front of you should not be the focus of your attention. It's a good thing that technology keeps you in touch with others, but you can't rely on it.You need to be attentive and authentic when dealing with others. Step 15: It's good to work with others. People will probably reject the idea of working for you if they don't like working with you.Accept ideas from other people and learn from them.Instead of lashing out, handle conflict fairly.Help them work through their faults instead of fixing them.Accept the criticism graciously and learn to improve from it. Step 16: Network effectively. You should pay attention to the relationships you have with people in positions of power, even though you should have a positive reputation with everyone who crosses your path. You should be looking for people in positions of power. It will be easier to find the right people if you make connections with them. Step 17: When appropriate, show anger. There is no point in running away from conflict.Don't be afraid of expressing anger, but handle things as calmly and rationally as possible.Anger is more powerful than regret or sadness.Forgiveness and understanding are always available.People won't seek forgiveness if you're too busy apologizing and regretting for them. You need to demonstrate that you can't be pushed around if you allow yourself to express anger. Step 18: Don't worry about making enemies. You should try to get along with everyone, but you can't please everyone.Don't be afraid to get on someone's bad side.If you're always tailoring yourself to fit someone else's expectations, you won't gain any power or standing for yourself.Being straightforward without pulling any punches will rub some people the wrong way, but you can't let that stop you from acting how you need to.Be willing to compromise and be tactful.Don't be afraid of stepping on toes to get things done the right way when push comes to shove.
