Betta Fish Water needs to be changed.

One of the most important things to learn when caring for a betta fish is how to change the water in its tank or bowl. The betta can be sick from dirty containers and changing its water can cause the fish harm. There are two ways to change a betta's water.New water can shock the fish, so the partial water change is usually better.

Step 1: The new water must be prepared.

Fresh water is needed to fill a large container. For now, leave your betta's container alone.Chlorine and other harmful substances can be removed from the fresh water by using a water conditioner. The exact amount required for your tank or bowl size is provided by the water conditioner.

Step 2: The water needs to warm up.

If you put your betta into the water at a different temperature, it can harm it.Let the container of fresh, treated water sit at room temperature for an hour so that it will be safe and comfortable for your fish.If you mix hot and cold water from your tap, it will be the same temperature as the water in your betta's container. If you follow this method, make sure that the water in both tanks is the same temperature, and add water conditioner to the new water as instructed.

Step 3: There is some water in your betta's container.

To do a partial water change, you will take some of the water from your betta's container and replace it with some fresh, treated water.Remove 25 percent of the water from your betta's container with a clean scoop. As you remove the water, put your betta in the container. You can measure the water as you take it out.If you have a twenty-gallon tank, you should remove up to ten gallons measured using jugs or other measuring containers. If you want to transfer water from your betta's container to a bucket or sink, you can use a siphon hose. The gravel at the bottom of the tank should be vacuumed by moving the hose once the water starts flowing.

Step 4: Betta's container should be filled.

Slowly pour fresh, treated water from the container you prepared into your betta's current container until it reaches the previous water level. If you want to not disturb the fish, add the water slowly and leave the betta in its container.

Step 5: The water should change frequently.

It is recommended that you change your betta's water at least once a week.If your betta's container becomes especially dirty, you may need to change it more frequently.
