BrainscapeMFT Free Practice Question: Caseization is one of the questions that can be used on an exam.

You may have little to no experience with psychosis, which is one topic that could be tested on your MFT exam.Regardless of your personal or professional experience with psychosis, our MFT exam prep programs will help you learn everything you need to know for the exam.Diagnostic and crisis management are the most common questions I get from those using our MFT exam prep programs. There are other ways that the subject of psychosis can be tested.

We will look at a sample exam question that focuses on diagnosis. The primary symptoms of this category of disorders are delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and disorganized or catatonic behavior.

A therapist in a community mental health clinic is working with a client.During the course of the intake, the therapist learns that the client had a two week period in which they experienced paranoia and delusions about their neighbors. While they report that they have had no symptoms since then, the client's affect is blunted, they speak in a monotonous voice, and they still have not gone back to work and have gained 15 pounds. What is the most likely diagnosis?

Schizophrenia, Schizophreniform Disorder, and Brief Psychotic Disorder all have similar symptom profiles, but differ in their duration of symptoms. The episode of Brief Psychotic Disorder lasts for one day, but less than a month, and lacks the negative symptoms seen in the other two disorders. The person returns to normal functioning. The Schizophreniform Disorder episode lasts for at least 1 month but less than 6 months. If the episode continues for at least 6 months, a diagnosis of Schizophrenia is justified. It is important with these disorders to rule out substance abuse or a general medical condition that could be causing the psychotic symptoms.

The client only had positive symptoms for two weeks, but they still have negative symptoms. The total episode is in the time frame of Schizophreniform Disorder.
