Burlap is a great fabric that can be used in all kinds of crafts and do-it-yourself projects, but it can have an unpleasant odor and hold onto dirt. You can clean it with a washing machine or hand.
Step 1: Load the laundry into the washing machine.
Since it produces a lot of lint, it is best to machine wash it.If you don't, all your other laundry will be covered with tiny burlap fibers. If you do a lot of washing, you may need to do more than one load.
Step 2: For a normal load, add half the amount of detergent.
You don't need as much detergent for machine washing as you do for regular loads.Pour any kind of laundry detergent into the machine.
Step 3: The water is warm and the burlap needs to be washed on it.
It is important that you use a delicate setting on your washing machine. The washing machine has a full cycle.
Step 4: The air should be dry when the washing is done.
The machine dryer can be too harsh on the fabric.Instead of hanging it from a clothesline, hang it over a couple of chairs in aventilated area.It may take several hours for the burlap to dry.
Step 5: If you have excess lint, Shake the dried burlap.
If you have a lot of lint on it after washing it, take it outside and shake it.If there is any lint left, you can use a lint roller.
Step 6: Warm water can be used to fill up a sink or tub.
There is enough room for all of it if you use a tub.A large sink will work.
Step 7: As the detergent fills up, pour a cap-full of it into the water.
The detergent will sudsy when the water is running. You can shut off the water once the sink or tub is full.
Step 8: The water should be sudsy.
Push it down with your hands.Wait and wash the leftover burlap if you can't fit all of it.
Step 9: You can squeeze it with your hands if you turn it over.
This will help remove dirt and debris from the fabric.Don't let the burlap get wet in the water.
Step 10: Allow the soak for 15-20 minutes.
Any dirt or debris that's clinging to the fabric will be flushed out with the help of the soaking. If the water gets darker as the burlap soaks, this is a sign that the soaking is working.
Step 11: Don't rinse it with warm water.
All the leftover detergent gets washed away when you turn the burlap over.Remove any excess water from the sink when you are done rinsing.
Step 12: Hang it up to dry.
If possible, hang it up outside. If you can't hang it up outside, put it in a well-ventilated room.If you put it outside, hang it up in the shade. It is possible for direct sunlight to make burlap fade.
