Does it cost money to start a Kickstarter?
The short answer is that the Kickstarter platform is free to use until your project is funded. On Kickstarter, projects are only successful if they reach their minimum funding goal.

Creating an account on Kickstarter is free. If you create a project that reaches its funding goal, we collect a 5% fee and our payment partners collect fees.
What Cannot be a Kickstarter project?
Any item claiming to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent an illness or condition (whether via a device, app, book, nutritional supplement, or other means). Contests, coupons, gambling, and raffles. Energy food and drinks. Offensive material (e.g., hate speech, encouraging violence against others, etc).
Can you use Kickstarter for personal?
Kickstarter is for your personal, non-commercial use, except as explained in section 4 and section 5 below.
Can Kickstarter make you rich?
Kickstarter won't make you rich, but it gives you the an affordable ticket to the creative world, where artists, designers, and entrepreneurs are able to make a living off their creations. You can get your product into the hands of REAL people and get feedback.
Can you lose your money on Kickstarter?

How much does it cost to start a Kickstarter?
If your project is successfully funded, the following fees will be collected from your funding total: Kickstarter's 5% fee, and payment processing fees (between 3% and 5%). If funding isn't successful, there are no fees.
Do you need to have a company for Kickstarter?
Nearly anyone, from anywhere, can support a project as long as they have a major debit or credit card and a Kickstarter account.
Do you need an LLC before a Kickstarter?
Yes, a limited liability company (LLC) in the U.S. may launch a Kickstarter campaign, assuming that the other creator requirements are met.
