Sure. PCIe is largely forwards and backwards compatible. You can put a PCIe 3.0 (or 2.0 or 1.0) card in a PCIe 4.0 slot, and it'll work the same as if you had put it in a PCIe 3.0 slot.
What is the best PCIe 4.0 riser cable?

- Phanteks Premium Shield Riser Cable. Highest-Quality. Pros.
- Linkup Shielded Cables. PCIe Gen 4. Pros.
- Thermaltake AC-045 TT Premium. Best Option for Larger Cases. Pros.
- Phanteks Premium Shielded 600mm. Best From Phanteks. Pros.
Do PCIe riser cables reduce performance?
No PCIe riser cables do not affect performance. Some cables do require external power, make sure this power is connected or it will not work correctly.27 Apr 2016
Do riser cards work with PCIe?
PCIe risers are simply an extension of the PCIe slots. With PCIe risers, you can install numerous GPUs on the motherboard without worrying about the space or the limited x16 slots. You can use any available PCIe slot on the motherboard, even the PCIe x1 slot, and convert it to a x16 slot.
Are there PCIe 4.0 riser cables?
The latest PCIe 4.0 supports transfer rates of 16GT/s bit rate. While providing double the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0, the Gen 4.0 riser cable remains backward compatible with a maximum transfer speed, offers great performance, and shows off the GPU at a great new angle.
Polypheme. The riser probably does affect performance a bit. 3700 vs 3800 is only like 2%, so in the grand scheme of gaming if you were getting 90FPS in a game before, with the riser you'd get 2% less, so 1.8 less FPS, or 88.2 FPS. No real difference you'd see.22 Sept 2017
Do PCIe risers affect performance mining?
Any PCI Express will do. The riser will always work on 1x speed, which doesn't affect the mining performance at all. Thus, even a single-lane PCIe x1 can easily handle all the stuff.24 Mar 2019
Can you game on PCIe riser?
I was originally looking at just riser cables, but even the short ones get expensive fast. I found some mining PCI-e to USB 3.0 cards like this that looked promising. I found a YouTube vid that showed that this could limit performance by 20-50%, but this is ok, as long as the game runs.26 Aug 2019
Is PCIe 4.0 worth it for graphics card?
Is PCIe 4.0 Worth It for Gaming? It is worth the upgrade to PCIe 4.0 for gaming if you: Use the fastest NVMe storage devices for loading games, which will make use of the speed. Have a PCIe 4.0 graphics card, which may see a slight performance improvement.30 Dec 2021
Does PCIe 4.0 help gaming?
Any devices which were designed for PCIe 4.0 can benefit from the increase in available bandwidth. Devices designed for PCIe 4.0 could mean faster storage speeds (video and game loading) and faster graphics (video games and rendering).30 Dec 2021
