for open G you tune to DGDGBD. if on the tab they have the low E as a G, its not open G. it might be open E but with a capo on the 3rd fret making it open G. if you wanna play the song note for note and have it sound the same, you might as well play it in the same tuning.27 Jan 2010
Can you tune a string to E?
Yes. It would snap, and the tension trying to get an E would damage the neck. I wouldn't advise replacing a string from a different gauge set either; even if it is the same string you have spare.27 Apr 2011
Can you tune an E string to D?
If you don't have access to a tuner to hear the note, you can tune your low E string to Drop D by ear. Simply pluck your D string (4th string) until it matches its tone as you downtune your low E. Your low E will be an octave lower than your D string.
What key is drop D tuning?
Drop D tuning is almost identical to standard guitar tuning, with one exception: the 6th (lowest) string is tuned down a whole step, moving the note to D2 instead of E2 and resulting ing a “DADGBE” pattern. Lowering the sixth string in drop D tuning produces several effects: Drop D gives you access to a lower pitch.10 Aug 2021
