Chevrolet Malibu Questions, Engine power is reduced, and how to fix it.

Your engine can't do what it's supposed to.The Throttle positioning Sensor could be the cause. To verify trouble codes, have the vehicle scanned.

If you have an open corcuit, you will need to pull the code from the engine management system to find out what has gone wrong. You can get the codes for free at autozone. If you are so inclined.

They usually have a check engine light and a code that says something is wrong with it.

I am getting an error code when the check engine light is on.The Bank 2 / Sensor 1 Heater Circuit is malfunctioning. The truck might go into reduced engine power after the motor is running for a while.

If it's not heating up properly, the readings will be inaccurate and the computer will react accordingly, so check the O2 heater circuit, it may have blown a fuse, or the resistance is too high inside. The car is almost 10 years old this fall so you might think about replacing the upstream O2 sensors as a maintenance item, but don't worry about those until you get a code for them, they seem to last twice as long as upstream.

I own a 2006 Chevy Malibu that says its engine power is reduced with the engine light on.Can you tell me what the problem is when I press the gas pedal?

If the check engine light is on and there is a code in it, then you should swing by an auto zone and have the codes pulled, write them down, and then someone will jump in and help you with further diagnosis.

I have a 2016 Chevy Malibu that has a check engine light on but it doesn't pick up speed.HELLLPPP!

The Sadara mine is doing the same thing. It's so scary.Pulling onto a busy highway!I've had it at the dealership before. They replaced a few things and are doing it again.Did yours get resolved?

Just did it, now I'm getting full power.

Do you mean 89 octane?Fuel should not turn on the light if the owners manual recommends that, things like a loose gas cap and fuel tank ventilating controls can cause it to do so.Someone will hop on and help you along with further diagnosis if you swing by a place that can pull codes like autozone and see what they tell you.Hth.

The engine sign car is not going more then 6 months after I shave Malibu.

I was on my way to a day trip with my family when my check engine lite and reduced engine power warning came on, I pulled over and shut the car down.Don't buy a car with 76K miles because it will not last.!

I was told that my 2005 chevy malibu could be crankshaft or e cm.The code was pulled at Autozone when the check engine light was on.After looking at the reviews, I found a website called protech auto systems.Preprogrammed rebuild e cms are for under $300.They match it to my vin.Imagine that compared to the car that wanted to charge me.

I had an engine light that came on after I hit a street, what could it be?

I have a Chev Mailbu that only has 11k miles on it.The check engine light came on.Very disappointed. My 2005 did the same thing. If I was going to run into the same problems, I think I should fix that one.

There is a problem with the 2003 chevy trailblazer, the subs were hooked up wrong not paying attention, and now in restricted power mode, all of the fuses are good under the hood, but the rear seat and fuze box are not.

It is definitely a problem with Chevy Malibu's.I have a decade. When you depress the brake it will die and the reduced engine power warning will come up after it rains.I pulled the Throttle positioning sensor because the moonroof leaks and it looks fine, but it never got wet.Not sure what to do next.

The engine power reduced light is ridiculous and I think the malibu should be on a major recall.I think I should get a new car from GM.

I have the same issue on my Malibu.I started six months after buying it.Multiple sensors have been replaced as well.Every time I drive the car, it does this.

I got my malibu lt through the dealership a year ago and it still has the same issue.I'm going to see if I should trade it for something else.

It is still under warranty, so I would say yes to trade it.I'm trying to trade mine for someone else's.They are saying that I have thousands in negative equity. The dealership and GM decided to work with me on the trade after I filed a complaint with the Attorney General.

There were no issues with my 2016 1.5l malibu. An acorn kept tps from functioning this morning. It was damned squirrels. There is no Chevy here.

I bought my Malibu for Christmas.I need a new one for my cancer treatments. The garage engine lights are on.Anyone can help.Thank you so much, andrewcory67@yahoo.ca.Andrew Cory.

There is a common problem with the new body style of Chevrolet Malibu. When the engine fails, it goes into reduced power mode and you have to coast to the breakdown lane. This is dangerous and should be recalled.Chevrolet has no parts available so you can't get the sensor. My 2016 Chevy Malibu hybrid has been in the shop for 19 days and is under a full factory warranty. The life-threatening sensor I had in the car three weeks ago is the same one I am waiting for.I lost power on the freeway twice. We will get more information when someone dies with one of these cars.I hope it is not you.

We are in the middle of a cold spell in Minnesota.I had this happen as I was getting to work, my boyfriend is going to run the code a bit later when it is supposed to warm up, but could it be temperature related?

For the fifth time, my check engine light came on, I have a malibu. The code was thrown on my dash.I bought a brand new vehicle in 2017.I wouldn't buy one.My transmission and engine were sent to me by Onstar. It's time to trade it in.

I also have a problem in the same year.I did a lot of research and found the answer. The car will go intolimp mode with very little oomph. It was a software needed by the first Chevy. That wasn't it.I was told what I already told them on the second visit."Throttle positioning sensor"The problem is that the part is on back order, which is covered by the warranty.I've read that Chevy doesn't actually have a new part, but they are redesigning it.The car had been in the shop for 19 days.I will have this warranty rental for a while.

I had the same problem. The year 2017: Malibu.I did a lot of research and found the answer. The car will go intolimp mode with very little oomph. It was a software needed by the first Chevy. That wasn't it.I was told what I already told them on the second visit."Throttle positioning sensor"The problem is that the part is on back order, which is covered by the warranty.I've read that Chevy doesn't actually have a new part, but they are redesigning it.The car had been in the shop for 19 days.I will have a warranty rental for a while.

Thanks for the help.We were on a dangerous part of the interstate when this happened. It could have been disastrous.Let us know that Chevy has a major issue.

This happened to me.I own a Chevy Malibu. On the side of the road.I bought a new car.I have an issue where the car ignores the fact that I put it in park. This will be my last car.

I own a Chevy malibu ltz and it happened to me for the second time.I had two times when I was driving with my kids on the freeway and it stopped my car.It had to be towed twice. They couldn't fix it at the shop.P2227, P0641, and P0192 are the codes it gave me.

I own a Malibu. The auto stop kicked in at a traffic light on a hill.I stepped on the pedal when the light turned green. The car didn't move. There was a message that said reduced engine power.I didn't hit the start button.I rolled the car back into the right lane after putting it in neutral.Put on my flashers.I had to restart the car several times. The car started with the check engine light on.If the car was running, there was no shoulder to get onto.I was almost hit by a car before the police arrived. This is a life threatening disease that needs a recall now.!

The message engine power was reduced and my check engine light came on.I'm afraid of the results when I go to the dealership in the morning.I don't have a 36,000 B2B warranty.

If the check engine light is high and you have an emission component in failure, the power train warranty only covers the basic engine and transmission.Save yourself some money and go to a good independent shop in your area, you get more bang for your buck that the dealership chose one with good reviews and you won't be disappointed.

This issue was the same in 2016 Malibu. The gear shift sensor was the first thing that came to mind.It took 2 trips to the dealership to get that resolved. This is the engine power reduced problem.I will never feel safe driving this again because they're replacing something with the gas pedal. It's back to Toyota for me.

There is a problem with my premiere. The first instance was about a year after I bought the car.It was in the "engine power reduced" mode for about 6 months after that. One way to get to work on a major highway is to drive for 45 minutes. The dealership can't get me in for 3 days.I am not hopeful that this will be a small issue.

Sorry but you are wrong. The Chevy Malibu burns oil faster because of it's performance. You have to check your oil.The reduction happened to me today.I was down two quarts.Put in two quarts and you're back to full power.I think this is a warning system. The engine power is reduced if the car is running low on oil.Keep an eye on the oil level.Add some if it drops. It's a performance issue and a good one, although a pain because you don't normally need to check oil levels in a car.I love my car.

You don't have to check engine oil levels in today's vehicles, where did you see that?If you want to take care of your vehicle, you need to check the fluid levels on a daily basis. If you are on a trip. That is common sense. My wife told me that common sense is dead.

I have had a check engine light on for 12 times and it has never been low or needed. The Chevy Malibu is a piece of shit that I need to trade asap.

The sensor in my car told me the oil was low.Thank goodness for that."Not checking oil" is not what I meant. We don't normally check engine fluids on a new car, but that's what I meant. If you do that, it's great, but most won't.I don't want to trade in my Malibu.

It was awful.I bought a 2016 Malibu in February of last year and had my 3rd check engine light today.Engine power was reduced.I'm livid. The couples months into owning it was the first code. The second one happened in February of this year. The code is P06DE.I'm going to auto-zone for them to pull the code for free.I had another issue along with the check engine lights issue.I was told to shift the gear to Park when I shift to park. The codes were U1510 and U1502.Got that fixed as well.I will look at the third check engine light issue.I don't think it's an oil change issue, but I will update after tomorrow.I don't know what to do.My faith in American made vehicles has taken a hit, but I can't return the vehicle.

I didn't need an oil change until another 1K mile.I want to know if you pay attention to the oil percentage level on your dashboard or just change it every 2K miles.

I don't pay attention to the lights, I just check the oil myself every couple thousand miles and change it every 3-6 months, as it turns out my assumption was wrong. It did happen. The car was doing the reduced engine thing twice a day.I took it to my mechanic because I really trust him.He came up with the P-notices after running the diagnostic.Turns out that wasn't it either. The "accelerator pedal" was what it was.He replaced it.I will report back when I pick it up tomorrow. He said the "accelerator pedal" issue is common on this car and that I do use thecruise control a lot.I don't have a limited model.

There is an update. The third check engine light had the same code. The second engine light was fixed with the same code.I had an issue with my engine oil. After every fuel fill, I need to check the level.I'm going to do it every 200 to 500 miles since I never let my fuel go below 1/2 gauge. The issue was solved when they filled it up for me.You are correct to check the oil levels once in a while. The guy told me to do that. After 1K miles, I'm due for a schedule maintenance.Check your engine oil levels and learn how to fill it up.The manual tells you which type of oil to get. It's a good idea to perform other maintenance on your Malibu.Other modern cars don't need as much attention.

We received a letter in the mail about the problem. There is a condition that affects the electrical connection to one of the vehicles. The vehicle will enter a reduced engine power mode if the connection is interrupted.

This is terrible.I own a new Malibu that has 40,000 km.The'shift to park' thing happens on and off, with no rhyme or reason, and I had the engine light today. The oil has been changed 2 weeks ago.I want to keep this car, but I can't afford to get rid of it.Is it possible for GM to fix this thing?!

They have to fix it for free if you take it to a dealership.

I took my car to the dealership and they repaired it under the warranty. No more engine losing power. It has nothing to do with engine oil.My oil is changed a lot. It's a gas peddle. The'shift to park' problem was fixed and didn't cost me a cent. There is a notification from GM.Not every Malubu has the problem, so it's not a recall.

Hello.I have the same issue with my car.The check engine light and reduced engine power notice came on after I received the notice a few months ago.If this is the case, do I just contact my GM dealer and let them know that I have the same issue, or do they have to tell me?Thanks in advance.

I have a chevy malibu, I face an issue every day where when I start the engine it doesn't respond and the dashboard shows code 67 and 92, can anyone tell me if I should go to my mechanic or not?

The chevy malibu is a rental.I rented it so I could warn others not to buy one.Engine power reduction can be dangerous.I will have to drive for 2 hours tomorrow.

I have a 2006 malibu that has an engine reduce power and disabled engine code, I need to jump start the car from time to time, please help.

I have spent $800 on a new Chevrolet Malibu in the last 6 months.Changed part after part, kept throwing codes, and reduced engine power would cause the car to stall.I looked up on how to remove something after seeing a video. The intake was loose after the man changed the throttle body.I took it apart and you could take it out with your fingers.I tightened the bolts to fix my problem.I hope this helps.

I bought a 2003 Malibu with the same problem. After the vehicle reached its operating temperature and had been run on the highway, the issue resurfaced because of the bad Catalytic converter and the oxygen sensors that were replaced. It was only after the vehicle had come to a stop and tried to accelerate again that it occurred.I noticed that other people with the same issue replaced the EGR valve with no positive effect.I think that the exhaust gas recirculation valve fails to close correctly and causes emission problems, eventually ruining the Catalytic converter.Replacing both will resolve the problem, but it remains to be seen. The issue is an engineering problem and the obvious emission related issue in not setting a MIL code.

The alarm of engine power reduced is on my Malibu, how can I fix it?

I heard a noise that sounded like a piece of metal hitting the road as it faded away.I looked in the mirror and saw a piece of something.

When I drive out of nowhere the car will slow down and the message on the engine light is "engine power reduced" and "low traction".I replaced the ignition.
