The pine cabinets in your home are rustic and retro, but the wood is soft and will wear and tear.It is possible to restore it by cleaning it the same way you would any other piece of wood.Warm water and a mild soap are all you need to scrub away the gunk.Try a thin coat of paint for stubborn spots.Clean and finish your cabinets so they last longer.
Step 1: In a bucket, put soap and water.
Take a bucket of water and fill it with warm water.Check the label to make sure the soap is safe for wood. You need about 14 cup of soap for every US gal of water. To find out the exact ratio of soap and water, read the manufacturer's instructions.Specialty wood or cabinet cleaners are very effective.Mild soap is more expensive, so you may want to try it first. At a general store, you can find any of these options. Some soaps come in spray bottles. The soap should be sprayed directly onto the wood.
Step 2: It's best to wash and dry a cabinet at once.
If there is water damage to your cabinets, go slowly. Before tackling the rest of the cabinet, focus on one side at a time, washing and scrubbing it.Before moving on to another cabinet, rinse and dry it completely.
Step 3: Put a microfiber cloth in water.
Rather than soaking it, dip the cloth in the water. It's a good idea to limit the amount of water on your cabinets. To remove excess water, squeeze the cloth.
Step 4: From top to bottom, scrub the outside surfaces.
To clean the cabinet, wipe it down. It's a good idea to spend a little more time on the corners.
Step 5: Use a toothbrush to scrub tough spots.
You can use an old toothbrush on places you can't reach with a cloth. It's perfect for treating areas such as carvings.
Step 6: The inside parts of the cabinets need to be cleaned.
Move the items out of the way first.Remove the insides with soapy water.Make sure the cloth is dry.Water should not be allowed inside the cabinets. You should not open the doors until you are sure they are dry.
Step 7: Remove the microfiber cloth from clean water.
You can use your sink or fill another bucket. The water should be warm in the room. Before using it, squeeze out the excess water by dipping a clean cloth into it.
Step 8: The soap should be washed off with a cloth.
From top to bottom, go back over the cabinet.Use the clean water cloth this time. Most of the remaining soap should be picked up.
Step 9: Place a microfiber cloth on the cabinets.
After washing your cabinets, make sure to dry them off.
Step 10: There is wood polish on the microfiber cloth.
Put a drop of polish on a dried cloth.Commercial polishes can be found at any general store. Both wax and oil polishes can be used to refresh your cabinets. You can make your own polish. You can mix 1 cup of olive oil with lemon juice.
Step 11: The wood needs to be polished with the grain.
The dark marks on the wood can be seen from one end to the other. The grain is here.Rub the cloth along the grain to get the polish into the wood.
Step 12: A well-ventilated area is where work is being done.
If you want to avoid breathing in paint thinner fumes, work outside at first. You can mix the paint thinner. You can get some air flowing into your environment when you clean the cabinets. The doors and windows should be opened.
Step 13: Take paint thinner and soap and mix them together.
Put the ingredients in a bucket or container.Put in a small amount of paint thinner from a home improvement store.Add an equal amount of soap to stir the ingredients together.Paint thinner shouldn't be used on painted cabinets.Use soapy water to scrub the cabinet. When choosing soaps, be careful.Pick a soap that won't cause harm to your cabinets.
Step 14: Before using the mixture, wear gloves and a respiratory protection device.
If you want to stay safe, cover your skin.Put on a pair of gloves. To avoid breathing in fumes, wear a respirator.Goggles can be used to cover your eyes.General stores and home improvement stores have all of the safety products.
Step 15: The mixture needs to be brushed over the stained areas.
A paint brush or sponge can be used to dip the mixture. The mixture should be applied directly to the stained areas after the tool is lightly coated.
Step 16: Use an old rag to wipe off paint thinner.
Since you have to dispose of it later, use a rag.Go over the entire cabinet.Don't let the paint thinner come off.A layer of varnish or shellac is removed from the dirt. When you get the chance, refinishing your cabinets is a good idea.
Step 17: There is a metal container for the disposal of used rags.
When using paint thinner, put used rags in a sealable metal container. Before closing the container, fill it with cool water.Take the container to the hazardous waste disposal center. There are places that accept this kind of material. If you don't have a metal container, move the rags outdoors.Take them out of the sun and put them on a dirt or concrete surface. After at least 2 days, the rags can be thrown into the trash.
