There are a few bad habits that can make it hard to cut straight hair.It can seem exciting to cut your own hair, but you are more likely to make a mistake. If you are cutting hair for the first time, be sure to invest in a good pair of hairdressing shears, and cut off less than you think you want.If you cut too much, you can't add hair back.
Step 1: Take out your hair and make sure it is free of tangles.
You can start with wet or dry hair. Those with straight hair should use this method.Make sure your hair is wet before you cut it.
Step 2: Put your hair in a ponytail.
Take your hair out of the middle.Pull it back into a ponytail and secure it with a hair tie.The ponytail needs to be neat and smooth, and that all the hairs are in the elastic.
Step 3: Tie another elastic below the first one.
Wrap another elastic around your ponytail as much as you can.Depending on how long your hair is, and how short you plan on cutting it, you may need to add a third elastic below the second one.You can control before and as you cut with the addition of elastics.
Step 4: Hold the ponytail between your fingers.
Close your fingers around the ponytail and make a V-shape with your fore and middle fingers. You want to cut the ponytail by sliding your fingers down. The bottom edge will be slightly rounded. If you want to cut it straighter, you need to slide your fingers further down.
Step 5: You have to cut the ponytail.
Hairdresser shears are used for this step.Don't use regular scissors.Cut slowly and carefully.
Step 6: Check the shape after undoing the ponytail.
Hold another mirror in front of you and turn around so that your back is facing the mirror.Your hair will either have a rounded bottom edge or a slight curve.Proceed to the next step if this is not straight for you.
Step 7: Put your hair down the center.
Make pigtails by extending the part to the nape of your neck. You should drape the left side of your hair over your left shoulder. The strands on the back of your head should be kept as much as possible.
Step 8: You have to pinch your hair between your fingers.
Start with either the left or right side.Take the hair from that side and pinch it between your fore and middle fingers.
Step 9: Pull your fingers to the side.
You can cut your hair by sliding your fingers down the length of the hair section. If you angle your fingers upwards, they will point towards your shoulder. You can cut the hair from the back of your head shorter if you brush it out.The hair that came from the back of your head should be on the outside of the section next to your shoulder.
Step 10: Cut your hair below your fingers the same way you did before.
As you cut, keep your hand and hair close to your shoulder. You may need to split the section into smaller sections if you have thick hair. The new section should be compared against the previous one.
Step 11: The process should be repeated for the other side of your hair.
Measure the uncut hair against the cut hair to make sure you are cutting your hair at the same length.Take the innermost strands from the left and right sections. The cut strand ends on the uncut strand.
Step 12: Start with damp hair.
You don't have to wash the person's hair, but it needs to be wet.If you can, have the person sit in a tall chair and have their hair cut at a comfortable level.
Step 13: Take the top third of their hair and put it in a bun.
Pull the hair into a bun at the top of their head by using the handle of a rat-tail comb.Either clip the bun out of the way or secure it with a hair tie.The bottom part of their body should be left loose.
Step 14: A strand of hair between your fingers.
You can make a V-shape with your fingers.Close your fingers against the strand. The sections can be measured using a rat-tail comb. You don't want to accidentally pull down it too hard.
Step 15: Put your fingers on the strand to cut it.
Pull your hand away from the back to keep it against the person's back. The part you made earlier and the floor should be parallel to your fingers.Don't pull the strand from the person's back, twist your fingers, or flip the hair.A slight gradation will be caused by doing so.
Step 16: The hair should be removed from your fingers.
The length of your fingers can be used as a guide.Don't use ordinary scissors, use sharp, hairdressing shears.
Step 17: Measure against the already-cut section to gather another one.
Take a wide section of hair. You already cut the section, add it to a few strands. You should pinch the section between your fore and middle fingers. The cut strand needs to be level with the bottom edge.
Step 18: Move the hair onto the next section by cutting it first.
The strand should be cut even with the already-cut strand.Take another section and let go of the hair.Cut it against the previous strand.Continue until you have cut the entire bottom layer of hair.Pull the strands away from the person's back. They should be kept as close to their back as possible. To make sure they are even, measure up the left and right sides of the front.
Step 19: The next layer of hair should be let go.
Another neat, horizontal part can be created using the handle of a rat-tail comb.If you leave enough hair, you can still see the previous layer.Take the rest of the hair and put it in a bun.
Step 20: Cut the upper layer against the lower one.
Take a small section of hair from the new layer. There is a thin strand from the bottom.Run your fingers down until they are level with the already-cut strand. You should cut the new strand below your fingers.
Step 21: You can cut the rest of your hair using the same methods.
Measure the new strands against the old ones.Don't pull hair from the person's back; keep your hand close to their back.Continue until you have cut the person's hair.
Step 22: Make any necessary adjustments after drying the person's hair.
You can wash the person's hair if you want to.Cut the ends of the person's hair.
