In the second half of the 20th century, it was used in construction as a naturally-occurring mineral. It is made up of long, thin fibers which are very dangerous if breathed in.When studies showed the dangers of asbestos, governments banned the use of it in future construction. As a result of the increased risk of lung cancer, contractors are removing the material from buildings. You should always hire a licensed contractor to remove asbestos in commercial areas, but non-professionals can remove it in domestic settings.
Step 1: Personal protection equipment should be worn.
It's important that you wear the right equipment for the job.The correct clothing precautions must be taken since it is a dangerous material. You should wear a mask. There isn't enough protection provided by single-strap dust masks. You should wear a hat, gloves, safety goggles, and good quality overalls with a hood.
Step 2: Don't eat, drink, or smoke near the work area.
You could be exposed to dust particles if you do these activities near the area you are working in.Establish a rest area away from the places you'll be working. Before lunch and after work, wash your hands and face with soap and water.
Step 3: The power tools should not be used on the asbestos.
If you use power tools on the asbestos, they will break it and release it into the air.You should only use power tools on materials that are fireproof.Don't use power tools if you're not sure.
Step 4: Wet the material with water.
Use a pump spray to lightly wet the asbestos. The risk of particles getting into the air will be reduced if the dangerous dust sticks to the sheets.Make sure to spray as much as you can.
Step 5: Family members and neighbors are advised to leave the area.
It's a good idea to tell people who are in the same area about the nature of the work you're doing. You can tell people about the dangers and suggest they leave the area.If family members or neighbors don't leave the area, make sure they stay indoors for as long as possible with the windows and doors closed.Pets should be taken from the area and neighbors should do the same.
Step 6: There is plastic under the workspace.
This is to make sure that the ground is safe after the job is done.Use thick plastic bags.If you want to be extra safe, lay 2 layers of plastic wrapping.Do not reuse plastic bags.
Step 7: Children's play equipment should be moved away from the area.
The equipment should either be stored in a shed or moved away from the area.It needs to be more than just covering the equipment with plastic.Plastic wrapping should be used on sandpits and areas where children play sports.
Step 8: Seal the room by closing windows and doors.
Vents and the bottom of doors should be covered with tape and plastic sheets. The rooms should be sealed off from other areas of the house.Fireplaces should be covered with plastic sheets.
Step 9: Furniture should be removed from the work area.
Take curtains, rugs, and carpets from the area and store them somewhere else.Dust can escape back into the air when these furnishings are used. These items should be tightly sealed in plastic bags.
Step 10: Stack, wrap, and label the material.
Put the plastic sheets on top of the asbestos sheets. To make sure it's sufficiently sealed, double wrap the sheets and tape them together.Use labels to show that the bags have something in them.Do not slide or skid the sheets when placing them on top of each other.Place the sheets over each other. The fibers can be damaged by sliding or skidding.
Step 11: The area needs to be removed immediately.
It's only a matter of time before the room is in trouble. You could step on it, trip over it or knock it over.
Step 12: The entire workspace needs to be cleaned.
You can use a damp cloth or rag to clean up the dust. The workspace should be cleaned as thoroughly as possible.Don't leave the area on shoes, power tools, or clothing.Place all disposable clothing and cloths used in cleaning in disposable bags and label them to make sure they don't contain the cancer-causing substance.
Step 13: The work area needs to be vacuumed.
You can't use a household vacuum cleaner for this task.Only specialized vacuums designed to ensure the minimal amount of asbestos enters the air is used.If you're buying a vacuum for the job, you should go to your local hardware or electrical store and ask for a HEPA vacuum cleaner.
Step 14: It's a good idea to double wrap the asbestos.
If you want to keep as much dust as possible stuck to the asbestos, use the pump spray to lightly dampen it.To prevent dust from escaping, Wrap the plastic tightly around the asbestos. To make sure no dust escapes, tape the wrapping together as tightly as possible.
Step 15: Place the tape on the plastic wrapping.
Make sure the plastic bags don't get loose when the asbestos is tightly wrapped. It's a good idea to put labels on the wrapping to show that it contains something.
Step 16: All waste should be transported in a leak-proof vehicle.
Don't use an open-top truck or any other vehicle that is not sealed to transport waste. The open top trucks and other vehicles allow the possibility of damage to the plastic wrapping and the dust to escape into the air.
Step 17: There is an approved landfill site where you can dispose of theAsbestos.
Before you embark on your journey, make sure the landfill site can take the waste. You can find a list of approved landfill sites in your area by searching online.Do not place it in domestic bins.
