I would say it's highly doubtful that you will need chains if you are on any regular road or highway. Conditions that would cause a 4x4 to need chains will usually close the road before chains are required for a Jeep. I've never chained up any of my stock Jeeps in 20 years of CA mountain driving.Dec 3, 2012
Are Jeep Wranglers good in snow and ice?
Gear changes were as smooth as could be hoped for. Because the Jeep Wrangler is designed for pretty extreme off-road driving, it uses circulating ball steering. For the most part we drove in two-wheel-drive mode, and the traction it provided was good even with the snow and ice that occasionally covered the road.
Should I put chains on my Jeep?
Chains always go on the drive wheels, so don't put them on the front unless you've got some kind of assembled-in-Taiwan front-drive Jeep. If it is slippery enough to need chains, not having them on all 4 wheels won't be hurting anything.Dec 3, 2012
