The effects on the Code (delay, reverb, modulation) can be used as well, although, I wouldn't use the pre effects (pedal effects) with outboard stuff, but I suppose you could, I've not tried it.

These pedals are tough, practical and sound very good without actually breaking any new ground. That's not such a bad thing, as most of their algorithms are designed to recreate vintage effects!
Can you use pedals with the Marshall Code 50?
Also use a Ditto pedal for looping which all works great with my Code 50. Guitar is plugged into Boss ME50, then ran through the Ditto looper and then straight to the Code input on the amp. Watch volume levels and start lower vs higher until you hear the blend.
