If you are transitioning from a liquid diet to a solid diet for certain medical conditions that affect the bowels, or before some surgeries or cancer treatments, you may be told to follow a low-residue diet.Soft and easy to digest foods are included in the low residue diet.The purpose of the diet is to reduce the amount of bulk that moves through your body.To follow a low-residue diet, avoid certain foods and prepare others in a different way.
Step 1: Make sure you tenderize your meat.
You can eat meat if it is cooked well.Baking, roasting, stewing, or creaming meat is possible.Lean roasted pork is also acceptable.You can eat seafood fresh, canned, or frozen.Don't eat fried meat.Don't eat meat that has a lot of gristle.Tofu is an appropriate alternative to meat, but soy is not.Substitute ground meat for whole meat if you have dentures.
Step 2: Plain bread and grains are acceptable.
Don't eat bread or crackers that contain seeds, nuts, or spices.When choosing cereals, choose cooked and prepared cereals over whole grain options.Bran cereals can increase bowel activity.Don't eat barley and lentils.Jelly is okay if it doesn't contain seeds.It is okay to eat white rice, pasta, noodles, and potatoes without skin.You can eat waffles, French toast, and pancakes.Express your diet needs to your server when dining out.You should ask if the dish contains nuts or seeds.
Step 3: You should cook your vegetables.
It is okay to eat vegetable juice and raw lettuce.Cook other vegetables until they are soft.You can buy canned vegetables.Before you eat your veggies, make sure they are tender and soft.Green and red peppers are not spicy, but there are other great options.Don't eat cucumbers, sauerkraut, and other ferment foods.Peas, winter squash, broccoli, Brussels sprout, onions, cabbage, cauliflower, and baked beans are not recommended.Even from cans, stay away from lima beans and corn.
Step 4: Don't choose fried options.
Don't eat fried foods.Fried chicken, cheese, and vegetables, as well as items that are lightly fried in oil, are included.You can eat your eggs baked, scrambled, or boiled.
Step 5: Moderately eat fat.

Step 9: Limit your dairy intake to two portions a day.
You can eat dairy in moderation.If dairy gives you gas, avoid it.Choose a non-lactose option.A cup of milk is 1 serving.12 cup is the serving size of pudding, custard, or ice cream.It's okay to eat cottage cheese, cream cheese and soft mild cheeses.Don't eat aged cheeses.
Step 10: Mild snacks to eat.
Popcorn, nuts, and olives are not good snacks.Smooth peanut butter is the better choice.Mild snacks should also be present.Mild seasonings are okay, but don't eat spicy snacks.Before you eat anything that you don't make yourself, check the ingredients list.Ice cream, yogurt, pastries, bread, sauces, and many other food items contain seeds or nuts.These are not to be avoided.
Step 11: Enjoy fruit.
Fruit juice is a great beverage for this diet and you can get a lot of vitamins from fruit.Prune juice is not allowed.Purchase juice without the paper in it.
Step 12: Don't drink more than 1 cup of coffee per day.
It can cause irritation to your stomach and intestines.It's a good idea to keep your caffeine intake to 1 cup per day.Coffee, tea, and sodas are included.To make sure they are decaffeinated, check the labels.
Step 13: Don't drink alcohol.
Alcohol is not allowed on the diet.Don't drink alcohol while you lose weight.Talk to your doctor if you need help to stop drinking.
