Travelers are stuck in hotels for weeks or months at a time. The traveler craves nothing more than the taste of a home-cooked meal, as the novelty of eating at a restaurant or room service wears off. These approaches can be used to get around the lack of a kitchen. Most hotels will only allow the microwave method, and you may be evicted if they discover you using other appliances to cook food.
Step 1: Put the pot in a container and wash it.
To remove coffee taste, wash it with hot, soapy water. If the bathroom sink is too small, ask the front desk for a communal sink or have the coffee pot cleaned. You can remove the filter basket completely for most of these recipes.Do not use coffee pots that have a stain or smell.Coffee could be hazardous to your health if this was used to brew meth.
Step 2: You can make oatmeal.
There are two packets of oatmeal in the carafe.Add a packet of fruit jam and a pinch of salt. The oatmeal will be ready in about five minutes if you put eight to ten ounces of water into the coffee maker. There is a fruit-flavored herbal tea bag in the filter basket.Old-fashioned oatmeal can be cooked this way, but it may take longer. No honey?Cut-up fruit can be used.
Step 3: Soft-boiled eggs should be prepared.
The eggs should be placed in the carafe and the hot water poured over them.Allow the eggs to sit in the water for a while. If necessary, repeat. There are a few things you can do to determine if the egg is cooked. You can stop the egg with a quick touch of your finger. It is still raw after you remove your finger. The yolk won't be completely dry.Hard-boiled eggs are very difficult to make.If the egg is not fully cooked, don't eat it.
Step 4: Prepare ramen noodles.
The noodles should be in the carafe. The coffee maker should be turned on if enough water is added to the noodles. After the water runs through the coffee maker, it's a good idea to let the noodles soak in for three minutes or so.Add the seasoning after draining.
Step 5: The coffee maker can be used as a steamer.
Vegetables can be placed in the coffee maker's filter basket.Water can be run through the coffee maker.Do not use aromatic vegetables.Generations of travelers will curse your name when they drink coffee. The water in the carafe may make the vegetables soggy. If you choose this approach, you should empty the water frequently.
Step 6: You can make instant rice.
The coffee pot has rice in it.The rice package says to add the recommended amount of water to the coffee maker. The burner should be left on until the rice has absorbed most of the water.
Step 7: The hot water should be mixed with sauce packets or mashed potatoes.
Run water through the coffee maker and add the heated water to a sauce mix.You should only use the coffee maker for water. The water comes into direct contact with the heating element in these machines. The coffee maker will be ruined if sauces burn on the heating element.
Step 8: Poach meat should be cautious.
It's easy to guess that food safety organizations would have a problem with the old "coffee maker meat" recipe.A coffee maker can heat water to 200oF.This is close to boiling and hot enough to cook a thinly sliced chicken breast in 15 minutes.Coffee makers that are old or cheap can't cook meat to a safe temperature because they reach much lower temperatures. You should try this at your own risk. The water level should be about halfway up the side of the meat.If necessary, pour out the excess water.Milk, butter, and pepper can be added after the meat is cooked.Remove from heat one more minute.
Step 9: The heating element can be used as a hot plate.
A weak hot plate can be found beneath the coffee pot.You can grill food on a small plate or a tray made from heavy-duty aluminum foil. For a few ideas, see the clothes iron recipes. It will take a long time to grill on a stovetop. It's possible that you won't be able to cook thick cuts of meat.
Step 10: Prepare the iron.
Hotels usually have a clothes iron in the closet or on request. Before you start cooking, turn off the steam and set the iron to the cotton or linen setting. If the water is empty, you won't be able to reach high temperatures.
Step 11: The food should be removed from the heat if it starts smoking.
A smoke detector can't be turned off in most hotel rooms. If you notice smoke, remove the food from the heat and turn off the iron for a few minutes.
Step 12: You can make a grilled cheese sandwich.
The sandwich should be placed between the two layers of foil. The foil should be sealed into a packet. For about 30 seconds, press the iron over the packet. If you want to cook another 30 seconds on the other side, turn over the packet carefully. If necessary, repeat.Any kind of grilled sandwich can be made this way, as long as the ingredients are cooked or raw. There is a dessert sandwich with peanut butter and chocolate chips.
Step 13: It's a good idea to cook bacon.
Place bacon strips between two sheets of foil by cutting them in half.Press the iron over the packet.Carefully open the packet to make sure the bacon is done and to let out the steam. It will take 15 minutes to get bacon. If the bacon becomes soggy, you may need to pour grease out occasionally.Never put grease into a plumbing drain if you put it in a trash can.It takes bravery to cook raw meat with a clothes iron. It's best to wait until the bacon is fully crisp.
Step 14: The iron can be used as a skillet.
Use a pair of rolled-up towels or other small objects to prop up the iron.It needs to be firmly wedged to create a stable surface. The risk of burning is mitigated by keeping the iron on the ironing board.
Step 15: A tray made of foil.
The foil should be placed between the iron and the food. The foil should be folded upward to catch liquids. The iron will be protected from damage. If it is not labeled heavy-duty, use two sheets of foil.
Step 16: Food can be prepared in the foil tray.
It's best to stick with foods that are safe to eat raw, or that have visible indicators that they are cooked.Grease the tray with butter and crack eggs into it.Cook until the eggs hold together, then flip them over and cook on the other side.Wrap vegetables in foil and cook.Place the scallops in the foil tray and cook them.Shrimp will turn red and opaque when cooked.
Step 17: Clothes pins are needed to remove the tray.
Once the food is cooked, use two wooden clothes pins to pick up the foil and transfer it to a plate.Don't touch the foil with your bare hands because it will be very hot.Plastic clothes pins can melt.
Step 18: Eggs that are microwaved.
You can make a high-quality egg dish in a microwave if you know what you're doing. This method has the lowest risk of an explosion, which could be devastating to the microwave and your hotel bill. They should be put in two cups.Put the yolk in each cup with plastic wrap or a paper towel. The white and yolk should be microwaved for 30 to 60 seconds. They should be left to cook for 2 minutes before eating.
Step 19: There is microwave pasta.
The pasta should be covered with water. The microwave should be used for 3–4 minutes longer than the suggested cooking time. The bowl should be checked every few minutes.
Step 20: A baked potato can be made.
Place the potato in the bathroom sink and pierce it with a fork. After 5 minutes, turn it over and cook another 3 minutes. The potato is done when the center is soft. After five minutes, cut it open and eat with butter and salt.
Step 21: You can try other recipes.
Microwaves are great for cooking. There are many more recipes and general advice in this article. Some of the recipes need refrigerated ingredients. If there isn't a mini-fridge in your room, ask for one at the front desk.
