The data supports the conclusions made from the test.Standardized measures are what we usually refer to these types of tests as.The tests have been tried on students before and have shown that the student is reading below average.The data is summarized.This type of assessment gives scores such as percentiles, stanines, or standard scores.
Informal assessments are more about content and performance.Running records show how well a student is reading a book.Most rubric scores are given from this type of assessment.
The purpose of assessing needs to match the assessment used.Formal or standardized measures should be used to assess overall achievement, to compare a student's performance with others at their age or grade, or to identify comparable strengths and weaknesses with peers.Informal assessments should be used to inform instruction.
Identifying performance objectives, instructing according to them, and then assessing them are the most effective ways to teach.Intervention activities are necessary for any objectives that are not attained.
