Ghee, an ingredient from Indian culture that dates back thousands of years, is made from butter with water and milk.Ghee can be stored safely for months, add some delicious butter flavor to almost any dish, and may even have some health benefits, if you remove the fat from the butter.There are many ways to make use of ghee, from making it yourself to knowing how to use it in cooking or as a health product.
Step 1: Ghee is better than cooking oils.
Ghee has a higher smoke point because it doesn't contain any of the milk or water found in butter.Ghee can be used instead of cooking oils or butter in almost any recipe to add a nutty flavor.The temperature at which something will start to burn and smoke is called the smoke point.The smoke point of butter is around 350 F, while the smoke points of ghee are around 465.The smoke point for olive oil is around 400 F, while the same is true for sunflower oil.Ghee is a substitute for butter in cooking and baking.If you use Ghee instead of butter, your baked goods might not work as well.Ghee can be used to replace oils in baking.
Step 2: To make a tadka, toast the spices.

Step 3: Spread butter instead of ghee on toast.
Ghee doesn't have all of the water and milk found in butter.You don't need a lot of other things to spread butter over baked goods if you use Ghee.If you are allergic to milk or dairy, Ghee shouldn't be considered safe.
Step 4: It's a good way to saute vegetables.
Ghee has a high smoke point which makes it perfect for sauteing vegetables.Add around 100 grams ( 3.5 ounces) of your chosen vegetables to the Frying pan by melting 15g of Ghee in it.If you cook them for 5 minutes, they will begin to caramelize around the edges.Vegetables can be added to another dish with a sprinkle of sea salt.There are many delicious vegetables that you can saute in ghee.Before you add vegetables, make a tadka with the butter.
Step 5: It's a good idea to add a small amount of ghee to your coffee.
Adding butter to coffee may have health benefits.Ghee will work better as an addition to coffee if it is clarified butter.It's a good idea to blend your coffee with a small amount of ghee.Ghee is a good source of vitamins and important fatty acids, so it may have additional health benefits.It should not replace other regular sources of vitamins in your diet.
Step 6: It's a good idea to use a balm on lips.
The oil and vitamins in ghee can help heal lips.Try rubbing a few drops of ghee over your lips just before you go to sleep to try and repair damaged or dry lips.Ghee can also be used to heal burns and scars.The results of this may be different as a home remedy.First and foremost, follow your doctor's advice.Ghee won't be properly sterilized and should not be applied to open wounds.
Step 7: Soften your nails with some butter.

If you want to improve the health of your teeth and gums, you can use oil pulling.After pouring it around your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes, spit it out into a trash can.You should rinse your mouth out with water daily.Ghee and coconut oil can be used as a natural mouthwash, even though little research has been done to support some of the claims made about oil pulling.It's not a good idea to use oil pulling as a replacement for brushing your teeth.If you spit the ghee down the sink, it may solidify and block the drain.
Step 9: You can make a perfume with essential oils and ghee.
Add a single drop of any essential oil, such as lavender oil or orange oil.Rub it together in your palms, then place it behind your ears and knees for a subtle scent that will last all day.
Step 10: Take 1 pound of butter and put it in a saucepan.
Over a medium heat, place a large saucepan or pot.Put 1 pound of butter into small cubes and place it in the pan to begin melting.You can increase the rate at which butter is melted by stirring it occasionally with a wooden spoon.For the best butter, use unsalted butter.A pound of butter will produce about 12 ounces.
Step 11: You can evaporate the water by cooking the butter for 10 minutes.
When the butter has melted and begun to bubble, decrease the heat to medium-low and let it cook.The butter will start oozing out of it's shell around 10 minutes later.The butter should stop bubbling and start foaming again.Make sure you watch your butter as it cooks to make sure it doesn't burn.The butter can be made without having to be stirred if the temperature is kept low.
Step 12: Milk will form on top after 5 minutes of cooking.
After around 5 minutes, the butter will stop bubbling and begin to foam, bringing the milk to the top of the liquid.Continue to cook the butter, without stirring it, until the milk solids form a thin, foamy layer over the top.The melted butter can be swirled slightly if the bottom of the pot gets too hot.This will keep the butterfat and milk solids separate.
Step 13: Milk should be skimmed from the top of butterfat.
Use a mesh skimmer or spoon to skim the milk from the butter as it cooks.The butterfat becomes a golden color when the white milk solids turn brown.Milk can be left to cook and brown on its own.You will have more cooked food to strain away.
Step 14: The melted ghee should be strained through a cheesecloth.
Place a mesh sieve over a bowl or jug with a spout, and cover it with two layers of a fine cheesecloth.Remove the melted butter from the heat and leave it to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before straining through the cloth.Keep the pure, melted ghee if you can spare it.If you have a jar funnel, you can strain the melted ghee directly into the jar you want to store it in.To strain the ghee properly, place a sieve and cheesecloth over the top of the funnel.
Step 15: Store the ghee in an air-tight container.
Pour the hot butter into a jar or container.Make sure the container is air-tight and free of steam by covering it and storing it in your pantry for up to 2 months.The ghee can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.This will make it harder to scoop out the ghee, but it will last for a long time.If you store the ghee in the fridge, it will not go bad.It can be used within 1 month.Ghee will be soft but not liquid.
