Forget-me-nots have small, blue petals and bright yellow centers, which are great additions to your indoor flowers. They should thrive in a partially sunny window with a little bit of time and care each week. You will be happy to see your flowers bloom all through the summer.
Step 1: You can use a pot with drainage holes for each plant.
Putting each plant in its own pot helps them stay healthy. The soil needs to be able to drain so the roots don't sit in water, so make sure each pot has several draining holes on the bottom. All kinds of containers can be used for forget-me-nots.Plastic doesn't absorb water, so it leaves more for the soil.Ceramic or clay pots are also fine. You don't need to repot mature forget-me-nots in larger containers if you put each plant into a separate pot.
Step 2: A well-draining potting soil has a pH level of 5.5-7.
It is easy to see the pH level on the front of the bag.The pH level can be assumed to be around 7 if the level isn't indicated.Peat moss works well in a mixture of soil, compost, and organic matter. If you don't know what to buy, ask someone at your local nursery. They can point you in the right direction. It is important that your plant doesn't sit in stagnant water because it could cause rot and disease.
Step 3: You should plant your flowers in the spring.
Your flowers won't produce many blooms during the winter because it's the natural time for forget-me-nots.The longest time to grow and bloom is when the dormant period ends. You don't have to worry about waiting for the last frost to pass since you're keeping your forget-me-nots indoors. You can plant seeds, but remember that most forget-me-nots won't flower their first year.If you want to enjoy blooms right away, buy flowers from your local nursery that are a little more mature.
Step 4: They will get 6 hours of sun each day if you place the flowers there.
If you grow these flowers in a window that gets plenty of light, they will thrive in shaded and full- sun conditions. If it is still cold outside and frosting overnight, leave a little space between the plant and the window so that the cold won't affect its growth.Hanging pots can be installed if you don't have room for a table or plant stand. It would be better if you could have your flowers indoors but not lose any floor space.
Step 5: The temperature should be 65 and 72 F.
It's like a moderate temperature.Make sure your heat is set to 65 F during the fall, winter, and early spring.Try to keep the temperature under 72 F in the summer. When they are outside, forget-me-nots need partial shade because they don't do well in high heat. The environment should be easier to control indoors.
Step 6: The humidity needs to be below 70% to prevent growth of mold.
Forget-me-not's greatest enemies are high heat and humidity. If the indoor humidity creeps past 70%, use a dehumidifier during the summer months. If you don't have a dehumidifier, you can use air conditioning and ceiling fans to keep the humidity in check.
Step 7: When the top 3 inches feel dry, water them.
If you stick your finger in the soil up to the middle knuckle, you'll be able to measure the moisture level. If the soil is dry, add water slowly until it comes out of the drainage holes.Make sure the forget-me-nots don't get too dry by checking the soil every few days during the spring and summer.During the winter months, cut back on watering to once or twice a month.Water your forget-me-nots more frequently in the spring.
Step 8: If the leaves look a little yellow, fertilize the soil once a month.
Use a water-solublefertilizer.A clean watering can has 1 gallon of water and 6 grams offertilizer in it.It's a good way to keep your forget-me-nots hydrated when the leaves start to fade. There is no need to fertilize these flowers during the winter.
Step 9: Deadhead spent flowers to encourage growth.
If you pinch the flowers off where they meet the stem, new ones will come in.During the growing season, plan on deadheading twice a week.If you pinch and pull, the flowers will come off easily.
Step 10: Dead leaves and stems can be Prune during the dormant season.
Remove any stems or leaves that have died after the forget-me-nots stop growing.Throw away the debris with clean, sharp shears. It's okay if you end up cutting the plant back to the soil.It should be fine in the spring. To clean your shears or scissors, wipe an alcohol-soaked cotton ball over the blades. The spread of diseases is prevented by this.Since you are growing forget-me-nots indoors, there is a chance the plant won't die off completely. When trying to cut away stems that have died, use your best judgement.
Step 11: You can use an insecticidal spray to deal with pests.
When they are outdoors, these flowers don't attract many bugs or diseases, and they're even less likely to develop problems indoors. You can easily deal with aphids by spraying your plants with an insecticidal spray.Get to work when you notice an issue. The sooner you address a bug, the more likely your plant will recover and live a healthy life.
