Eyelet curtains have holes along the top edge. The holes are finished with large grommets to prevent them from unraveling. They do not require curtain rings and are easy to install. The way that they are woven onto a curtain rod creates beautiful folds in the fabric, which can make a room appear more grand and formal.
Step 1: There is an even number of grommets in the curtains.
The number of grommets affects how you thread the curtain onto the rod.The edges of the curtain won't fit against the wall if there is an odd number of eyelets. You should match the curtains to the room you are hanging them in.
Step 2: Measure the inside width of the grommets.
You need a thin rod to slide through the curtain's grommets. It wouldn't hurt to get the exact measurement for most rods.Take a look at the packaging for your curtains. If you can't find the size on the label, use a ruler to measure the inside width of the grommets. If you don't want to measure, you can use a rod with a width between 1 8 to 12 inches.
Step 3: Measure the window to see how long the rod is.
Measure across the window.Add the answer back to your measurement. This will tell you the length of the curtain rod.The final curtain rod length is 72 inches.
Step 4: If you want a curtain rod that matches the grommets, buy one that's the right length.
The shade and color of the rod should be the same as the ones on the curtain. It should be small enough to slide through them.Pick the larger size if the length falls between 2 standard sizes. It's important to match the shade.Light silver rod will not look good against dark silver grommets. The curtain rod has a label. Some measures include the finials while others don't.Without the finials, you need to look at the measurement.
Step 5: If necessary, purchase matching finials for the rod.
The curtain rod has finials on both ends. The curtains can't slide off the rod. There are many curtain rods with these. If you don't have a curtain rod, buy them separately and make sure they match.
Step 6: If the curtains are creased, iron them from the front.
If you can iron the fabric in the first place, you should read the washing instructions. The curtains can be steamed with a steamer. If you can't iron or steam the curtains, drape them across your bed for several hours. This will make it easier to relax.
Step 7: The curtain should be mounted where you want it to be.
The brackets are mounted above the window frame and either side of it.If you want to change the proportions of your window, you can deviate from these measurements. If you want your window to appear taller, place the brackets closer to the ceiling or crown molding. If you want your window to be wider, place the brackets on the sides of the window.
Step 8: The wall is where you want the brackets to hang.
To measure up and to the side of the window, use a ruler.Place the brackets against the wall where you measured to.Make sure the brackets are straight and not crooked by placing a level on top of them.Where you measure is dependent on where you want the brackets to hang.Refer to the previous step. The bubble should be centered between the guidelines on the tube.If the bubble is off-center, tilt the brackets.
Step 9: Guide marks can be created with a pencil.
Go through 1 of the screw holes with a pencil and wiggle it around to create a mark. You should repeat this step for the other screw holes.
Step 10: Using pencil marks, drill holes into the wall.
Use a drill to make holes in the walls after you set the brackets aside. If you don't have the brackets, you risk chipping the wall's surface.
Step 11: If you don't have a wooden stud, insert wall anchors into the hole.
Wooden studs are used to anchor screws. If you don't have a wooden stud behind the hole, you should use a wall anchor. You can get a stud finder tool at a home improvement store. They're cheap and can prevent you from hanging curtains without a stud. The wall anchors should be able to hold the weight of the curtains and rod.
Step 12: Put the screws in the other brackets.
The wall has a brackets against it.Attach a screw to one of the holes. The first and second brackets have holes on them.Measure and mark the placement before drilling into the wall and installing the brackets.
Step 13: If needed, adjust the length by setting the rod onto the brackets.
Some curtain rods are sold at a set length.Take your final measurement from the previous section and adjust the rod to that length.Make sure you have the same amount of extension on both sides of the window.
Step 14: The curtain rod has finials on it.
First, remove the curtain rod from the brackets. There is a place where you won't lose it.
Step 15: Start from the front with the curtain rod.
The front/right side of the curtain should be facing you.The curtain rod should be moved through the first and next grommet.Continue weaving until the rod comes out.You need to start weaving from the front of the curtain. The edges won't lay right if you start from the back.
Step 16: If needed, repeat the process with the second panel.
If you only have one panel on your curtain rod, you are done and can proceed to the next step.If you have 2 panels, repeat the previous step. You should slide the second panel from the front of the curtain.
Step 17: The curtain has a back.
The curtain should be shifted so that it doesn't get caught.Just like you would screw a cap onto a bottle, place the back of the finial onto the rod.
Step 18: The curtain rod should be placed on the brackets.
The curtain is ready to use. There are more steps you can take to make the presentation better. They can really update your room and make the curtains drape nicely.
Step 19: The curtain should be moved so that the outer grommets are not in the brackets.
If you want the first grommet to be on the outside of the brackets, you have to lift the curtain rod and slide it.Set the rod back up and repeat the process with the second panel. If you want to be able to move the curtain panel back-and-forth across the entire rod, the last grommet should be inside the brackets. If your curtain only has one panel, you should use the first and last grommets.
Step 20: If needed, fold the returns inside the curtain.
There is excess fabric on each side of the curtain panel. If your curtains have this, you should tuck the excess fabric into the curtain and place it against the wall. This will make your curtain look better.Attach a pin to the back of the return if it won't stay inside the curtain.Attach the pin to the screw by placing it into the wall.
Step 21: If necessary, adjust the folds on the curtain.
Eyelet curtains have natural folds because of the way they are hung.If your curtains don't have these folds, open them.Place your fingers into the folds.
Step 22: If desired, install tie back brackets.
Eyelet curtains don't need to be tied back because of the way they drape, but you can install wall-mounted tie backs if you want to.The window frame is two-thirds down. You can mark the holes with a pencil by placing the tie back brackets against the wall. The brackets need to be removed to drill the holes. The brackets should be replaced and the screws put in.Ropes or ribbon can be used to tie the curtains back.
