It's not necessary to take your pants to the seamstress. You can use a sewing machine to hem those legs.It will take you no time to make the perfect hem if you have access to a sewing machine.Practice on a few pairs of pants and then hem your friends pants.Practice is perfect.
Step 1: Measure for something else.
They should wear the garment. If you want to gauge the length, they should stand on a step stool.Ask the person how high they want the new hem to be.If you want to give the pants to you, fold it on the outside and ask them to confirm the length.
Step 2: Make sure to measure yourself.
With one fold, you can roll the pants up to the desired length. To make sure it sits at the correct length, stand up straight when pulling up the fold. You can remove them now.
Step 3: It's better to compare to another pair of pants.
If you have a pair of pants that fit you perfectly, use that as a model for the pants in question. If you want to hem the pants, lay your ideal pants on top of them. The excess of the pants should be shown here.
Step 4: The length can be marked.
You can mark the location with a piece of chalk. If you want to make a mark on each leg, make sure the pants are unfolded.Measure and mark three lines from the previously-made line. The chalk lines should go to the edge of the pants. To make a clean edge, use 1/2 of the fabric below the new hem.The lines should be even on the legs.
Step 5: Measure by ironing a piece of paper.
You should fold your pants to the desired hem once you have decided on the length. The crease of the fold should be iron. The halfway mark is marked by taking a piece of chalk or a pencil. The halfway mark is between the edge of the fold and the crease. If you want to mark the crease, unfold the leg.The crease should be bold.
Step 6: The ruler should be used.
A ruler is needed to perfect a clean line.Place the ruler's edge to the mark.
Step 7: Get your scissors out of your hand.
Buying a pair of sewing scissors is a good idea if you don't have them.It is easier to use a sharp pair of scissors than a regular one.
Step 8: Start at the bottom.
The line should be cut closest to the bottom.Don't cut fast and be patient. This will make zig-zags instead of neat edges. It helps with your accuracy if you create multiple lines.
Step 9: The pins are used to use.
You can use pins to cut adjustments to your clothing.Use pins to hold each leg.The tension in the legs will make them easier to cut.
Step 10: Cut to the center line.
Take the lines above your initial cut and put them under the top line.Don't focus on more than one leg at a time.Don't cut the topmost line. This is where your pants will be hemmed.
Step 11: Cut threads that are loose.
Cut loose threads with your scissors. You may need to repeat this step after you wash the pants.
Step 12: Take the pants out.
The pants should be folded so that they face out.You should be able to see the seam.It will be easier to sew the hem.If you folded the legs inside out, you wouldn't have to do this to the entire pants.
Step 13: Take the hem and fold it in half.
The hem should be folded from the edge to the top line. The top line should be on the edge of the fold. The edge will be the hem. It's important to make sure the size looks good.
Step 14: You have to iron the fold.
Put your pants on the ironing board.Wait until the iron is fully heated. The fold needs to be iron down. This will ensure that you have a professional fold.
Step 15: Load your sewing machine
Load the bobbin with the thread you want.Matching thread can be used to blend in, like the gold thread used on most denim jeans.
Step 16: Set up the machine.
For a simple hem, set your machine for a straight stitching or a small or medium straight thread.
Step 17: Begin stitching.
The machine only stitches the hem and not the leg's opening when you position your pant leg.You need to sew from the top of the hem.Continue sewing in a straight line around the leg.
Step 18: Go back on the other leg.
On the other leg, follow the same steps. If you want to compare the length with the finished leg, iron the seam on the opposite leg. It's your last chance to fix the length.
