Why is fiber optic cable not used everywhere?
Fiber-optic cables are difficult to tap because they don't emit signals that can be monitored. They are very secure. Fiber optics is faster than most other transmission mediums. The signal has a constrained loss rate, which means that very little of a signal is lost over rather long distances.
Why is fiber internet taking so long?
For most cities, there are a few basic components to our Fiber networks that we need to design from scratch. Every mile of this network has to be planned and diagrammed, which takes a huge amount of time (imagine planning a network that touches about 30 utility poles per mile, for thousands of miles).
Is it hard to get fiber internet?
Since installing fiber most often requires laying a new cable and setting up specialized equipment, some fiber providers do not give the option for you to self-install fiber internet. You must have a technician come to your home to set it up for you, which can be very expensive.
