Do air pumps at gas stations cost money?
Many places that have air pumps — like most gas stations — charge money to use them, and let's face it: It sort of sucks to pay for air.2 Dec 2014
How do I pump air into my tires at a gas station?
- Park your vehicle by the air dispenser.
- Remove the cap from the tire valve on the first tire.
- Use your tire gauge to check the air pressure in the tire.
- Use the air hose to add air in short bursts.
- Keep checking the pressure until you get it right.

Why are air pumps at gas stations no longer available?
The repair garage always had compressed air available for its service tools and inflating tires but for a user-operated tire compressor only it became a maintenance headache and does not generate much revenue or even traffic for the station. Consequently gasoline stations no longer offer air and water on every island.
