- Remove ignition key.
- Remove the negative cable from the battery.
- Remove the positive cable from the battery.
- Keeping cables completely clear of the battery, hold both the positive and negative cables together for 10 minutes.
Do TIPM need to be programmed?
Even though technically the TIPM does not need to be programmed, it does need to be configured to the car. Therefore, a “Restore Vehicle Configuration” will be needed, which requires the VIN to be entered into the TIPM. The TIPM will collect the necessary vehicle configuration and VIN data from the PCM on its own.

How much does it cost to program a TIPM?
If your TIPM does require reprogramming, which occurs in less than 10% of all used TIPM sales, the typical charge is around one hour shop time (approximately $100).
Can you use a used TIPM?
Registered. While the TIPM does record the VIN of the car it was first installed in, it will work perfectly fine if you swap it into another car. There would be a VIN mismatch code that the dealer would be able to see, but it won't trigger a check engine light and a normal code reader wouldn't see the code either.28 Sept 2020
