Should I grease my cranks?
It is likely, unless your bicycle is quite old, that it has sealed bearings in the crankset, so there is no real need to grease them yourself. It is good practice to visually inspect and clean them regularly, but they do not need deep maintenance unless you encounter rough movement or an unusual sound coming from them.
Is direct mount better?
Direct-mount calipers are better than standard single-bolt brakes because they're so stiff. Braced between two mounting points instead of one, they're inherently less prone to flex, so less of your effort at the lever is wasted. Because of their wide stance, they offer decent tyre clearance too.
How does a direct mount chainring work?
What makes any chain ring considered direct mount is in this case when the one-piece chainring bolts directly on to the crank arm. A more traditional chain ring would use four or five bolts to secure the ring to a crank "spider" that is then attached to the crank arm.Feb 1, 2020

No, cranks are not generally always interchangeable, but you probably can transplant the crank from the broken bike. First, do both bikes have 6, 7 or 8 sprockets in the rear cluster? If so, they use the same chain width and the spacing between the chainrings will be the same.
How do I know what crankset I have?
Crank length: This is measured from the centre of the bottom bracket axle to the centre of the pedal axle. Most stock bikes have cranks of 170mm or 175mm, but you can get them as short as 140mm and as long as 190mm. Choose crank arms that suit your inside leg measurement for optimum comfort and control.
