Use a 1-2 ounce per gallon phosphoric/nitric acid mixture (140°F maximum temperature) for 15-30 minutes. Do not rinse. Use a noncaustic alkaline cleaner at 1-2 ounces per gallon of warm (120-140°F) to start. CIP for 15-30 minutes depending on conditions.

Beerstone is a type of scale of known as calcium oxalate (C2CaO4) in the brewing industry, calcium oxalate is a precipitate. This precipitate is largely due to a reaction between alkaline cleaners (caustic), hard water minerals (calcium and magnesium) and protein (amino acids).

The result visually was notable almost instantaneously: The bubbles came streaming up off the etched surface of the Beer Stone. Within a minute or two the head of the Beer Stone glass was significantly higher, as well as tighter and more like what you would see with a nitro beer.
