You can learn alot in 1 to 1.5 years but I think it takes 2 to 3 years for the average person/hobbyist to get proficient at jiu jitsu if they dont have previous grappling experience. If you wanna get good fast , you should train at least 2 hours a day 3–4 days a week for a year .
