How much does it cost to produce a Blu-ray?
The typical (new blockbuster) movie DVD retails for $15 while the same movie BD retails at something like $20. The manufacturing cost is just $2 to $4 or so respectively. About $1 to $2 goes into licensing of copyright protection software (Macrovision, CSS, etc.) Another $1 in logistics and shipping.
DVDs and Blu-ray discs will be replaced by streaming services. Consumers head to streaming services to watch movies, and the addition of Disney+ to the mix will only make DVDs and Blu-Ray discs even less of a necessity.Nov 16, 2019

A DVD is composed of several layers of plastic, totaling about 1.2 millimeters thick. Each layer is created by injection molding polycarbonate plastic.
