Toothpaste, hair, and other items can accumulate in the bathroom sink and cause it to smell bad.mold can grow in your drain and slow or block the sink from draining, as well as this debris.Cleaning your drain regularly can help keep it free of gunk.Baking soda and vinegar can be used to break down the build up in the drain.
Step 1: Every week, remove debris from the drain.
If you want to prevent the build-up of gunk on your sink, you have to discard the debris that they collected. Before replacing them, rinse them.It is not possible to plug the sink in most bathroom sinks.Pull them out of the drain. If you push and pull a rod behind the faucet, you need to remove the nut on the back of the drain pipe.
Step 2: When needed, use a non-corrosive drain cleaner.
The bathroom sink can collectbacteria that can contribute to odors and deposits in the drain. The pipe-cleaner is non-corrosive and can be used once a month.Hydrogen peroxide can be poured directly down the drain. Many well-advertised drain cleaners are full of chemicals that pose a risk to both your health and your pipes.Follow the directions for store-bought cleaning products. It is not recommended to use bleach or antibacterial products. They can damage plumbing systems. If you have a tank, this is important.
Step 3: You can clean your drain with household products.
Salt, baking soda, vinegar, and/or lemon juice can be used to clean your sink instead of a packaged drain cleaner.Put whatever you have on hand into a cup of solution and drain it.Before you flush the hot water down the drain, let it sit for an hour.
Step 4: The water should go down the drain.
Start by boiling 12 gallon of water and pouring it down the drain. The high temperature water will break apart.
Step 5: The drain needs to be pushed.
The build up should be encouraged by plunging the drain 5 or 6 times. This may not completely remove the build up, but it will help loosen it.An airtight seal can be created over the opening of the drain.
Step 6: Baking soda should be put in the drain.
Slowly pour the baking soda into the drain.Allow the baking soda to sit for a while.Baking soda will help break apart the build up of unpleasant odors.
Step 7: Add something to it.
Wait a few minutes and pour a cup of distilled white vinegar into the drain. The baking soda and vinegar will foam together. If you want the baking soda and vinegar mixture to work it's way into the blocked portion of the drain, cover it.Allow the mixture to sit in the drain for a while. It's also a natural deodorizer. The mixture will help remove the odor caused by the deposit.White vinegar will not work in lieu of cider or lemon juice. After rinsing with hot water, allow the mixture to sit.To eliminate odors, repeat the process.
Step 8: The drain has a snake in it.
Stubborn deposits may require physical disruption. You can get a drain snake at the hardware store. These are strips of plastic with hooks on either side.If you have deposits in your drain, use it to break it up.Don't remove the snake until there is no hair or clumps on it.You can bend a metal coat hanger so it has a hook at one end.Pull it out with pliers if it gets stuck. To remove unpleasant odors, follow this with a baking soda and vinegar soak.
Step 9: The sink drain has trash in it.
Being aware of what you put in your drain is the most important part of keeping it clean.Natural debris, such as hair, will inevitably accumulate in the bathroom sink drain. If you don't know if it's okay to go down the drain, throw it away.Do not wash dishes or dispose of food in the bathroom sink.Don't dispose of cotton balls, dental floss, or bits of toilet paper in the sink drain.Don't allow the small round liner underneath the lid of personal care products to go down the drain.
Step 10: Use less soap and other products.
Toothpaste and shaving cream can contribute to build up in your drain if you regularly dispose of them in the bathroom sink. You should use smaller amounts of these products.A small amount of toothpaste and a single pump of hand soap is all you need to wash your hands. After using soap or toothpaste, let the water run down the drain for a few seconds.
Step 11: Don't use commercial drain cleaners.
There are many reasons not to use commercial drain cleaners that use chemicals. They can cause damage to your plumbing system. They can enter the ground water in your area.
