A dog agility jump can cost a lot.You can make your own with a few items. You can jump for big dogs. Two small jumps can be made for smaller dogs. You will be able to train your dog with the right jumps.
Step 1: Measure your body parts.
Measure and mark the pipe before you cut it.The length of most 112 inch pipe is 1.52 m.Measure and mark the cuts that you need to make on your pipe with a tape measure and Sharpie. You could ask the sales associate if they would cut the pipe for you.You can either cut it yourself or have someone else do it.There are 2 pieces. Two pieces are 512 inches (13.97 cm). There are two 6 12 inch pieces. There are 2 pieces.
Step 2: Cut to the point.
Once you have measured and marked your pipe, you can use a pull saw or circular saw to cut the individual pieces. You should use the saw to cut along the lines that you marked on the pipe. You should place the pipe in a vise if you want to hold it in place.Keep your fingers away from the blade and wear eye protection when operating a circular saw.A box and a saw can give you more control over your cut.Since the box will hold the pipe in place, you don't need a vise.If you use a hacksaw, make sure to secure your pipe with a vise. This will prevent you from cutting yourself.
Step 3: Put your cups in them.
If you want to create a cup where the jump bars will rest, you have to stop at the middle of the center tube.Attach a small piece of scrap pipe to one end of the tee joint and the other to the work surface. You will cut along the line that you drew if you hold the scrap pipe with your free hand.Cut the pipe parallel to the tee to create the cup.All of the cups can be made with three more tee joints. When creating the cup, cut away from yourself. If making your own cups seems too complicated or dangerous, you can buy cups online from various pet supply companies. The jump bar should be held in place by the cup. This will keep your dog out of harms way.
Step 4: The sides of the jump need to be assembled.
You can build one side of the jump by putting the pieces together in this order. To fit the pieces together, use a block and hammer. To create the other side, repeat this process. The pieces are connected when the pipe rests against the inside shoulder.
Step 5: The bases need to be built.
Attach a 12-inch (30.48 cm) pipe through the open tee joint on the bottom with one of your side pieces.Put a cap on one end and a tee joint on the other.Put two 12-inch pipes with end caps into each end of the open tee joint to make it steadier. To create the base for the other side, repeat this process. The bases should stand on their own.
Step 6: Put the jump together.
Wrap a few strips of tape around the bars and the sides of the jump to make it more visible to your dog.The sides should be parallel with the cups. Finally, connect the two sides by resting a piece between them.Depending on your dog's agility, you may only need the lower bar at first and then work up to two bars as the dog gets better at jumping.
Step 7: Take your measurements.
Use a tape measure and Sharpie to mark the cuts on your pipe. Most hardware stores have 10-foot lengths of 1-inch PVC.If you have your measurements handy, you should ask the sales associate if they can make your cuts for you.You will need 8 12-inch (30.48) pieces, 4 134-inch (4.45 cm), 2 50-inch (127 cm) pieces and 4 30-inch (76.2 cm).
Step 8: You should cut your pieces.
Once you have marked your cuts, use a pull saw or circular saw to cut your pieces. You should cut along the lines that you marked. You will have 18 pieces total, 9 pieces for each jump, because you are making two jumps.
Step 9: The jump bars should be made.
While you are cutting your pieces, take the 10-foot pieces of 34-inch pipe and cut off four 50-inch pieces. If you mark and cut off a 20-inch piece from each pipe, you can cut the remaining large piece in half to get two 50-inch pieces. If you want to make more complicated markings, you can use tape, newspaper, and spray paint. You should get four 50-inch pieces of 34-inch pipe. You may need to trim a little off the ends of your jump bars to make sure they fit in the cups. You don't need to take off more than a quarter of an inch.
Step 10: The feet of the jumps need to be built.
The pieces should be put into the top and bottom of the tee joint.Put caps on the ends of the pipe. You should be able to make all four feet for your jumps if you repeat this process three more times. You could use a hammer and block to get the pieces to slide together.
Step 11: Put two bases together.
Put a piece of 134-inch (4.45 cm) into the open end of the tee joint for each foot.Attach another tee joint to the top of the 134-inch.Four feet with tee joints facing in is what you should have.Take two jump feet and, with the middle openings of the tee joints facing each other, insert a 50-inch piece of 1-inch pipe in between them. The base should stand on its own once you insert the 50-inch piece.
Step 12: The jump should be assembled.
Put caps on the open pipe ends if you put a 30-inch (76.2 cm) into the tee joints.Attach the jump cups to the 30-inch (76.2 cm).Place one piece of 34-inch (1.9 cm) in between the cups. You should get two parallel jumping bars for each jump. You should be able to find the clips online. You can make your own.If the bars don't fit perfectly, sawing off a little at the ends is a good idea.If bumped, the bars should rest securely.
Step 13: Provide your dog with a reward.
Stand on the other side with a treat is one of the easiest ways to get your dog to jump over the agility jump.Give your dog a treat when it jumps over the bars.Do not give the dog a treat if it goes around the bars.Your dog will eventually associate jumping over the bars with a treat. They won't be prompted to jump over time.
Step 14: Take some time.
It will take some time to train your dog to jump over the jumping bars. The agility jump can be taken by your dog right away.Your dog may be hesitant at first and need some encouragement to attempt a jump.Train your dog every day in order to master the agility jump.
Step 15: The dog should be praised.
Positive training with your dog is important.A positive tone will help your dog master the agility jump.It will take a longer time to master the trick if you yell at your dog or use a harsh tone.
