Band T-shirts can be expensive, but they are great for casual, everyday fashion.If you love wearing band T-shirts, but don't like the price tag, then you might want to make your own.An iron-on transfer is a common way to do this, but photo transfer liquid is less expensive.If you want something with more of a homemade feel to it, you could stencil a shirt with a band logo, or even paint it free-hand.You need a blank T-shirt for all of these options.
Step 1: You can print a design and cut it out.
Any printed image can be used with photo transfer liquid.A band logo, image, or lyrics can be printed out.Black and white can be used for printing your image and text.Cut out your logo with a pair of scissors after you print it.You need to reverse the text on the shirt if the logo has text in it.If you want to make a logo for your band, use a software program.
Step 2: The photo transfer liquid can be painted onto the image with a sponge brush.
Place the image on a piece of paper.Use a sponge brush to cover the image.Put the brush in the liquid and sweep it over the image.You can't see the image through the photo transfer liquid.Photo transfer liquid and a sponge brush can be purchased at a craft supply store.You can make more band T-shirts if you use the 2 items again and again.
Step 3: Press the image onto the shirt.
The photo transfer liquid side should be facing down so that you can press it onto your shirt.It can be applied on the front, back, or sleeve of your shirt.You can either center the design on the front or back of the image, or put it off to one side for a little variation.
Step 4: The image should be dry until it is completely dry.
Wait until the photo transfer liquid is completely dry before doing anything with it.It should be left in a safe place to dry for at least 8 hours.Pets or small children shouldn't be disturbed by the shirt.You could put the item in a closed room or on a high shelf.Aim a fan at the shirt to speed up the drying process.
Step 5: To remove the paper, use a wet sponge.
After your design is completely dry, use a clean sponge with water to spread the paper on top of it.Rub away the top layer of paper with water and then moisten the entire area.It should come off easily.The homemade band T-shirt is ready to wear after you remove the paper layer.The image will not be as dark as the one you printed.After you wipe away the top layer of paper, it should still be visible.When the shirt needs to be washed, hang it to dry on the delicate cycle to preserve the image.
Step 6: Purchase a stencil or make your own.
If you want to create a stencil freehand, draw or trace a design onto a piece of thick paper.You can use an X-acto knife to cut out the image, logo, or text that you want to stencil onto your shirt.For example, you could purchase a stencil of the band's official logo to use for making T-shirts, or you can print off an image of it to make your own stencil.If you cut out the design yourself, cut along the outside of it to get a stencil design.
Step 7: Place the stencil on a T-shirt.
The stencil should be positioned on the T-shirt where you want it to go.To hold the stencil on the T-shirt, apply masking tape to the edges.To avoid getting paint on other areas of the shirt, you may want to place some old newspaper around the edges.The stencil can be positioned in the center of your shirt or off to one side or corner.
Step 8: Use spray paint or fabric paint to fill in the stencil.
You can choose the paint color you want to use.If you will be using liquid paint, you can use a sponge brush to fill in the stencil by dipping it into your paint.You can spray fabric spray paint onto the stencil using a back and forth sweeping motion.Good coverage is ensured by applying 2 coats of either paint.It's a good idea to avoid applying too much paint.
Step 9: Allow the paint to dry for at least eight hours.
It is best to let the paint dry for at least 8 hours if you want to be sure.Don't wash or wear the shirt until the paint is completely dry.It will feel tacky when the paint is still wet.You can check the paint after a few hours if you can't wait to wear your shirt.If you want to preserve your shirt, wash it inside out and hang it up to dry.
Step 10: You can add a logo or lyrics to the shirt.
If you want to add something to your shirt, you can free-hand paint it.Pick something that you can paint on your shirt from the band logos, images, and lyrics.It's important to consider your artistic abilities and time.If you want something simple, you can choose a favorite line or verse from a song and write it on your shirt.If you want to try something more advanced, you could paint a portrait of one of the band members.
Step 11: There is a pencil on the shirt.
To create an outline on a shirt, use a pencil.It will be easier for you to check the positioning and fill in the design before you make it permanent.If you are writing lyrics on a shirt, you should write them on the shirt where you want them to go.Before painting a portrait of a band member, draw a basic sketch of the person on the shirt.
Step 12: Use fabric paint to fill in the outline.
Get out the colors of fabric paint that you want to use after you have your outline.You can paint along the edges of the outline by dipping your brush into the first paint.The other colors you want to use should be filled in as well.If you outline your text with black or white, you can fill it in with the same or different color.If you want to create a portrait, you can outline it with a flesh tone and then fill it in with other colors.
Step 13: You should wait at least 8 hours for the fabric paint to dry.
Leave your painted shirt to dry for at least 8 hours.If you put it in a closed room or on a high shelf, it will not be disturbed by pets or small children.Your shirt is ready to wear when it is completely dry.Hang the shirt up to dry after washing it on the delicate cycle.
