Drugs can be given in the form of an airborne mist through a nebulizer.People with asthma, young children, and people who have difficulties with ordinary inhalers are all recommended for Nebulizers.Since your medicine has to pass through a nebulizer to get to your lungs, it's important to keep it clean.
Step 1: You need to wash your hands.
It's a good idea to wash your hands with soap and water before you start.Germs and other harmful organisms are killed by washing your hands. You won't want to transfer these onto the nebulizer by cleaning it with dirty hands if you use this method. You can see how to wash your hands. If you work as a healthcare worker, you may want to use the more conservative WHO guidelines for hand- washing.
Step 2: If possible, disassemble the nebulizer.
Most nebulizers have a mask, a section of tubing, and a compressed air machine.Take the pieces apart.Don't leave them connected unless your nebulizer comes apart, you only need to clean one or two pieces, not the entire machine. The two main types of nebulizers are the atomizer jet and Ultrasonic.Ultrasonic nebulizers vibrate the liquid medicine with sound waves to make it into a vapor, while atomizer jets use compressed air to distribute your medicine. The cleaning instructions for the two nebulizers are almost identical because they both use the same setup.Smaller portable models may have slightly different configurations.Do your best to remove the pieces that can be removed. The most important thing to remove and clean is the mask on the nebulizer.
Step 3: Warm water can be used to wash the cup.
Run warm water. It's a good idea to rinse the mouthpiece and any connecting pieces that are attached to it under the water for about half a minute. The tubing should not be washed with water. The machine is not intended to be cleaned this way because the tubing is hard to dry.You can wipe the outsides of these pieces with a towel.
Step 4: Allow the air to dry.
Put the excess water off of your mouth piece and put it on a clean towel. The water should be allowed to evaporate naturally.Depending on the climate, this can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.
Step 5: The machine should be put back together.
Put the entire nebulizer back together when the pieces are dry.For about 10 to 20 seconds, run air through the machine. You can separate the tubing from the compressed air machine at this point.A clean bag is a good place to keep the tubing. The machine can be covered with a sheet or towel.
Step 6: At the end of the day, wash the pieces in soapy water.
After each day of use, some nebulizers recommend that you wash the pieces. If you need to do this, consult your model's instructions. If you follow the steps below, you will be able to clean the nebulizer using soap. The compressed air machine should not be washed.Run warm water.Make sure that every part of the pieces is cleaned by using mild dishwashing soap or detergent.Remove soap by rinsing for half a minute.Air-dry the towel with a clean one.
Step 7: The equipment must be washed as directed.
It's important to give your nebulizer regular deep cleanings in order to keep it clean and in good working order. You should wash your nebulizer after you finish using it.For more information, see the section above.A deep cleaning is recommended by most manufacturers. If you don't know how often to deep clean your nebulizer, consult the instructions that came with it.
Step 8: You can get a solution or make your own.
Different manufacturers recommend different products for deep cleaning.Depending on your nebulizer's instructions, you can either make your own cleaning solution or buy a commercial one from the pharmacy. If you want to make your own cleaning solution, mix 1 1/2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
Step 9: Take your pieces and put them in a container.
Put the mask and T-shaped piece in a bowl with a cleaning solution and submerge them. They should be left to sit so that the solution can clean them. The amount of time your nebulizer's manufacturer recommends for soaking varies from model to model. This typically takes 20 minutes to an hour.Don't soak the tubing or the compressed air machine.
Step 10: Before storing, rinse and air dry.
The cleaning process should be the same as it would be if you used the method above.Remove the pieces from the solution and rinse them with warm running water for at least 30 seconds.Set the pieces on a clean towel after shaking the excess water off.Allow the pieces to dry. When the pieces are dry, you can run a compressed air machine to remove water from them. The tubing and mask can be kept in a bag. Before storing the machine, cover it with a towel.Don't reuse the leftover cleaning solution.
