In a time when elastic didn't exist, garter belts were invented as a way to hold up stockings. They're mostly used as a fashion accessory, adding a bit of flair to your undergarments. They can be a bit difficult to put on if you wear them all day.Pick the right belt to make them easier to wear.
Step 1: Put it on.
There may be some slip ons. Most will have a hook and clasp system.Wrap it around your waist. The back is where the closure goes.It is comfortable if you adjust it so it stays up.The belt should be wrapped around your waist. It should be placed at your waist.Attach it by sliding the hooks into the claspsThe most comfortable line of clasps is what you choose. The step is similar to attaching a bra.If you have trouble attaching it in the back, you can move it to the front.
Step 2: Put your pantyhose on.
Pull up your thigh highs. The straps need to be adjusted to meet the top of the hose. The straps should be slightly different lengths. The ones in the back should be the longest. The straps on the sides should be an inch shorter and the front two inches shorter than the back, all of which will help you bend easier. When you sit down, it helps.
Step 3: Attach the clasps to the thigh highs.
The rubber nub and metal piece fit over the clasp. The rubber nub should be underneath the top edge of the stocking.Unless sewn on at an angle, the clasp should reach straight down to the stocking. It should fall about an inch from the top of the stocking. The metal clasp is over the nub.The nub should slide into place if you pull up.Continue with the clasps around the belt.Push the rubber nub from behind so that you can see it sticking out.Don't push so hard that you tear a hole in your stockingsThere is a narrow end at the bottom of each clasp.Pull up the narrow end to hold the nub in place as you slide the wide end over it.You should be careful if you have plastic clasps. The plastic clasp will snap in two if you apply too much pressure.
Step 4: As needed.
Once your stockings are settled, you'll need to adjust them to make sure they're at the right height. You will probably need to adjust throughout the day.You can check on them in the bathroom. If you want to see how it fits, you have to sit down and stand up with the belt on.It might pop off when you sit down, so you don't want it to have too much tension.Your thigh highs should be mostly taut, as you don't want them pooling at your ankle. As needed, loosen and tighten the straps.
Step 5: The last thing to do is put on your underwear.
It may seem counter-intuitive.You should have a belt on the outside of your undergarments. Not if you want to use the bathroom more quickly. If you put your panties on before the belt, you'll have to remove the straps and take off your underwear to use the restroom. It's a problem if you put your underwear over the belt and straps. It's fine to put your underwear on first if you're only going to wear the garter belt for a short time.If you plan to wear it all day, you should put your underwear under your skirt or pants. If you prefer, you can also go without underwear.
Step 6: Find the right size.
A "one-size-fits-all" model is what a garter belt may be.It won't fit everyone, but it may fit some. Many brands make them in standard sizes, so finding one that is actually in your size is a better bet. Some stores may not allow you to try it on first. There is a belt that stays in place.Your thigh highs will slip if it slips. You don't want one that is too tight.Make sure it's loose and comfortable. Finally, look for one that is changeable. The hooks are similar to a bra and you can make adjustments as needed.
Step 7: Pick one that has metal clasps.
Plastic clasps are not as strong as metal. The plastic ones break.Pick a belt with metal clasps for the best grip.
Step 8: You can find the best straps.
For the best hold, pick a belt that has 6 clasps. If you plan on wearing it for more than an hour, some may have only four. It's important to look for elastic straps. When you bend over or move around, elastic will allow the straps to keep hold of your thigh highs, as it means they have give and won't pop off at the clasp. You can find many more straps, up to 8 or 10, which will hold even better.Thick straps provide a better hold and are less likely to twist.
Step 9: Decide how much coverage you want.
A small belt is formed across your waist by some garter belts.Others are much bigger. It's up to you.Garter belts are often used as lingerie, so you should base it on how comfortable it is and the look you are going for.If you plan to wear it all day, a wider belt is more comfortable.
Step 10: Pick a fabric that's practical.
The fur belt isn't going to be comfortable or breathe well.If you're only planning on wearing the belt for a short time, that's fine.If you plan to wear it all day, pick something that will breathe better and give you more comfort.
Step 11: Determine how much you want to spend.
Cheap belts seem to be a great option, but they probably won't hold up.If you're going to wear it a lot, you might want to spend more money to get a better belt.
