Freshly baked buns are easy to make and great for a wide range of meals.Combine essential bread-making ingredients, such as yeast, flour and water, and mix them until they create a smooth consistency.Allow the dough to rise before baking it in the oven. The buns are ready to be served after a few minutes of baking.
Step 1: In a bowl, combine 2 cups of flour with 0.25 ounces of dry yeast.
Put the flour and yeast into a large bowl.Stir the 2 ingredients with a spoon. You should only use 2 cups of the flour during this step, as opposed to all 5 cups.Later on, the rest of the flour will be needed.
Step 2: Put the milk, water, oil, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
There is a microwave-safe bowl for the ingredients. The milk, water, vegetable oil, sugar, and salt should be put into the bowl.Put the bowl in the microwave to cook the ingredients. If you don't know how long it will take for the ingredients to heat up, start with 20 seconds.
Step 3: The warmed ingredients should be added to the flour mixture.
The bowl should be removed from the microwave once the ingredients are warm. The warm ingredients should be poured into the other bowl.
Step 4: If you want the consistency to be smooth, beat the ingredients for 3 minutes.
To make sure everything is well-distributed, use a large spoon to stir all of the ingredients together. After a few minutes, the mixture will form a smooth consistency. If you decide to use a mixer instead of beating the ingredients by hand, you won't have to mix it for the entire 3 minutes, so pay closer attention to the consistency. If you have a dough hook attachment, use a slow speed if you are using a mixer.
Step 5: A soft dough can be created by mixing 2–3 cups of flour into the mixture.
To make sure you don't add too much, pour 1 c of flour into the bowl. When you mix the flour with the ingredients, use a spoon to add an additional 1 c of flour until the dough starts to become soft.If the dough is still sticky, add the last 1c of flour. It's best to mix everything together. If you add more than 3 cups of flour to the mixture, it will make your buns way too dense.
Step 6: After 10 minutes, let the dough rest on a flat surface.
Sprinkle a small amount of flour on the counter space.Place a large bowl overtop after removing the dough from the bowl.Allow the dough to rest for 10 minutes.
Step 7: The dough should be shaped into 12 balls.
You can make 12 balls of equal size by using your hands. If you want the dough to stick to your hands as you shape it, you need to pat some flour on your hand.Press down on the top of the ball to flatten it.Before shaping the balls, wash your hands with soap and water.
Step 8: The dough balls should be on the baking sheet.
You can cover the baking sheet with a sheet of paper or grease it with butter. There is roughly 2 in (5 cm) of space between the dough balls on the baking sheet. It is important to leave a bit of space between each ball of dough because it will expand.
Step 9: The dough should double in size after 1-2 hours.
If you pay attention to the size of the balls before they rise, you can determine when they have doubled.Don't move them or touch them while they're setting. The dough can rise at room temperature.
Step 10: The dough should be put in the oven at 400 F.
The buns need to be put in the oven before preheating.Once the dough balls have risen, place the baking sheet in the oven and let them bake for about 15 minutes or until the tops of the balls are a light golden brown.Once the buns have baked, let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before slicing them in half and serving. To get as much air out of the bag as possible, place extra buns in it.You can keep the buns in the freezer for several months, or they can be kept at room temperature. The bag should be marked as freezer-safe.
Step 11: Once the rolls are baked, apply honey butter to the top of them.
Once you're satisfied with the taste, add a little bit of each ingredient to the softened butter and honey mixture.Once the buns are baked, use a silicone basting brush to apply the honey butter to the top of them. The buns will get a sweeter taste.
Step 12: For chewier buns, substitute regular flour for bread flour.
Purchase bread flour and use it in the recipe instead of using all-purpose flour.Your buns will come out with a soft yet chewier texture because your dough is less sticky. The rest of the measurements should be the same.
Step 13: If you want a richer flavor, add 1 or 2 eggs.
Adding eggs will make the recipe stickier due to the added liquid, so you'll want to add a bit more flour as well to balance it out.Eggs add a lot of richness to the buns, but they may come out a little flat. You can start by adding flour to the recipe.
Step 14: Whole wheat and regular flour can be combined to make a healthier alternative.
If you're used to the flavor of whole wheat flour, don't replace all of the regular flour. The rest of the recipe calls for using 50% whole wheat flour and 50% all-purpose flour. If you combine the flour with the dry yeast, you can use either regular flour or wheat flour.
