Sewing your own custom Barbie doll bedding is a great way to keep in touch with your child as she explores the world of dolls. You won't get the interactive element of working with Barbie because you can easily purchase bedding for her.You should involve your child throughout the process, teaching her about sewing and how to approach project management.
Step 1: The store has a lot of fabric options.
Your child can get very creative here.If she wanted a pink, glittery bedspread, now is the time to let her purchase pink glittery fabric for Barbie--at least one resident in the room will have the glitz!Make the doll bed and pillow by picking up enough fabric.Make sure you have enough for a 9 x 11 if Barbie's bed is 8 x 10.Don't forget about pillows. To fill your bedding, purchase fabric. You would need thick batting to make a comforter for a human.Since Barbie won't be getting cold at night, thick fabric or even stuffing it with cotton will suffice.
Step 2: Purchase a few bags of cotton.
You may need thread in a matching color if you plan to use your sewing machine.Make sure you have an appropriate needle and a good pair of sewing scissors for both hand and machine sewing. You will need a measuring tape to make sure the measurements are correct.
Step 3: Cut the squares from the comforter fabric.
Measure the 9 x 11 squares.
Step 4: The back of the fabric should be facing outward.
Don't worry about this step if the fabric is the same on both sides.
Step 5: To create a seam, sew around the edges.
Leave the top open and sew the sides and bottom.
Step 6: The pattern should be facing out if the fabric is turned right.
Excess fabric or string should be trimmed.
Step 7: The top of the blanket should be added with batting or stuffing.
Add a thin layer to give the comforter some thickness.
Step 8: The top opening has a 12 inch seam.
To create a seamless look, trim hanging thread after you've finished.
Step 9: To create a pillow, cut two pieces of fabric.
If you want to make a large pillow, measure around 2 x 3.The exact size is up to you.
Step 10: The fabric should be turned out with the back facing out.
If you have a crooked pillow, line the edges up carefully.
Step 11: There are two sides of the pillow.
A small seam will do the trick.
Step 12: Remove any excess thread or fabric by turning the pillow fabric right side out.
At the end of your filling, you should have an opening.
Step 13: The pillow should be stuffed with cotton.
You still need to close the other end, so be careful not to overstuff.
Step 14: The end should be the same as the rest of the pillow.
