It makes your community a safer place to live if you get along well with your neighbors.Clear and consistent communication is the key to being a good neighbor.Introduce yourself to your neighbors and stay in touch.Keep your noise levels low and your yard well-maintained to be courteous. You could even join a neighborhood association or watch if you want to go above and beyond.
Step 1: Clean any shared spaces.
Sharing responsibility for a hallway, entrance, or yard with your neighbors is a possibility if you live in a duplex, townhome or apartment.Remove or carefully store your personal items, such as bikes or grills, in order to keep these spaces nice.Pick up any trash you see.If you want to maintain a lawn, talk with your neighbor about rotating mowing duties.
Step 2: It's important to care for your yard and garden.
Regular mows are included in the lawn maintenance schedule to avoid overgrown grass. It's a good idea to collect and dispose of your leaves in the fall.Clean up any flowerbeds.Hire a professional lawn service if you can't do it yourself.
Step 3: You should put your trash out at the right time.
According to the local schedule, take out your trash to keep your neighbors happy.Follow any restrictions regarding oversized items and use the correct trash containers.Call waste services for your area if you notice that an item has not been picked up.Most waste companies have specific policies on what types of trash they pick up.It may not be enough to just place large branches by the curb. You might need to tie them together. The local trash rules help to cut down on pests and vermin.
Step 4: Pets should be kept quiet and under control.
Follow your local laws regarding pet ownership. When in your front yard, have your animals licensed and on a leash. If you own a dog, enroll them in training courses.Bring them inside if they continue to bark.If your pets are bothering your neighbors, let them know that they can come talk to you.If your dog barks too much in the evening, just let me know, and if you walk in your neighborhood, pick up your pet's poop as well.
Step 5: Follow the noise regulations in your area.
The rules regarding noise can be found on your city's website.Loud home repairs are restricted to specific hours of the day.As you go about your daily life, try to avoid being disruptive, especially during early morning or evening hours. If you live in an apartment complex, the leasing company will usually give you a list of community rules that include a statement about noise. If you think you're being loud, lower your noise level. To determine what is appropriate, use what you know about your neighbors. If you know that the person next door works nights, then adjust your noise levels accordingly.
Step 6: You should introduce yourself.
If you have lived in the area for a while, you can reach out to new arrivals by going over to your neighbors and saying hello. As part of welcoming someone to the area, feel free to give them a small moving in gift.Say hello to your neighbors when they are working on their lawn or walking their dog.You might say hello when you first meet your neighbor.I'm Fred Thompson. You can give your neighbor any friendly local tips, such as what time the garbage or mailman stops by, if you live 2 doors down from them.A welcoming gift can be anything from a friendly card to a basket filled with local foods.
Step 7: When possible, do your neighbors a favor.
If your neighbor is struggling with a package, offer to help them.If they don't have a mower, offer to let them use yours. If you help your neighbors, don't feel embarrassed when you need help as well.If your neighbor goes out of town, you might be asked to watch over their home. You can ask them to return the favor if you take a trip.
Step 8: Attend neighborhood events.
A few of your neighbors will enjoy a nice dinner or barbeque. You can find out if you are eligible to participate in a local watch group by looking at your home.Talk to your neighbors and create your own.Whether you've been in the area for days or years, these are great ways to get to know your neighbors.A community association could put on a street festival.
Step 9: You should stay calm when talking to your neighbor.
It is important to respond calmly and rationally if your neighbor comes to you with a problem.Take a few deep breaths if you get frustrated. If you have time to think, you can ask to delay the conversation. You could say, "I understand where you are coming from, but I need to consider how to fix it on my end."Can we discuss this over the weekend?
Step 10: If there are problems face to face, deal with them.
It is important to act quickly if you have an issue with your neighbor.Tell them what's going on.They can help you find a solution that will work for both of you. It's better to give your neighbor a chance to come up with a solution than to reach out to local authorities. If you feel as if the safety of you, your family, or the neighborhood is at stake, this doesn't apply. You might want to reach out to the local officials.Gossiping about issues with your neighbor to other people in the community is not a good idea. This creates more problems.
Step 11: Your neighbors should be aware of parties.
It's always a good idea to give your neighbors a heads up when you plan on having a large group of people. They can decide if they need to park elsewhere or move their cars for the night. It tells them that a lot of new people will be in the neighborhood and that it might get loud.Any loud gathering, such as ongoing construction, will be the same.
