How To Become a Texas Ranger

If you're interested in pursuing a position in law enforcement, joining the Texas Rangers can be a challenging and rewarding career choice.The Texas Rangers were formed in the 1800's to protect the people of Texas.To become a Texas Ranger, you need to be a trooper in Texas and have met the training and education requirements.It is helpful to understand the duties, requirements, and qualifications that you will need in order to become a Texas Ranger.

Step 1: Be a part of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Only those currently employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety will be considered for the position of Texas Ranger.You will need to apply if you are not already in that position.

Step 2: Have the right experience.

You will need professional experience and skills to become a Texas Ranger.Before you apply, make sure you have worked for a law enforcement agency for at least eight years.Excellent performance ratings and high achievement will increase your chances of becoming a Texas Ranger.It's necessary to have a rank of at least Trooper II.Experience in military police positions will not count towards this requirement.You should have experience working with major crimes.Backgrounds with cases of murder, theft, robbery, burglary, sexual assault and fraud will give you an edge.

Step 3: There is a job for a Texas State Trooper.

Step 8: You have to pass the test.

To become a Texas Ranger you will need to take and pass a written exam.If you pass this test, you will be able to become a State Trooper and a Texas Ranger.If you pass the written test you will know if you are ready to become a Texas Ranger.You will be tested on reading comprehension on the written test.Your knowledge and skills will be tested.There is a section on basic mathematics in the test.

Step 9: Go away from the interview.

You will attend your interview once you have met all requirements and been selected to become a Texas Ranger.The final decision regarding your acceptance into the Texas Rangers will be made by a board of interviewers.You may be asked hypothetical questions about situations a Texas Ranger might encounter.You could be asked how you would handle a criminal investigation.It is likely that you will be asked about how you dealt with difficult situations in the past.If you are able to speak Spanish, you might be asked.

Step 13: Prepare for training.

Depending on your role in the Texas Rangers, what training you are required to undergo will be different.You will have to have certain amounts of training on a yearly basis.You will need to attend training programs for many positions.You can do your best as a Texas Ranger by taking these training courses.You must attend at least 40 hours of training every two years.Depending on your function, you may be able to learn specialized skills.
