Black paint can be used to change the look of your chrome. To get a black chrome finish on your chrome items, paint them over with black paint. If you want a shiny chrome finish on non- chrome items, spray black spray paint is the way to go.All you have to do is primer, paint, clear coat, and a steady hand.
Step 1: If your item has dirt, grease, or grime, wash it thoroughly.
Use a microfiber cloth to wipe your item down after you wet it.Put an all-purpose metal cleaner on the surface and wipe it down with a microfiber cloth. Before you apply paint, rinse the surface and dry it.To clean a car, use a heavy-duty car cleaner and scrub brush. If you are painting a car emblem, remove it from the car so you can clean it.
Step 2: You can protect your workspace with painter's tape and a drop cloth.
If you want to prevent paint from getting on your workspace, lay sheets of newspaper across the table or cover the surrounding areas with a drop cloth. This is dependent on what you are painting. If you don't want to be painted, you can use painter's tape.Place the tape anywhere you want.If you want to paint the rims of your car, you need to remove the tires, stretch out a plastic drop cloth, and put them on top.The back of the rims can be covered with painter's tape to keep the inside silver.
Step 3: For a short time, shake up the paint can.
If you want to mix up your primer, move it back and forth quickly. There is a small metal ball inside the paint can.If you don't mix up the paint before spraying it, it will spray unevenly.
Step 4: A solid coat of black paint primer is required.
The primer helps the paint stick. The paint stays on if it is exposed to a car wash or heavy rain. You can apply the primer by covering the surface in an even layer with a can.Don't use an all-purpose primer if you are painting an automobile. The chrome will look dark instead of shiny. You can apply several layers of paint if there are some odd patches.
Step 5: Wait about 20 minutes for the paint to dry.
Allow your primer to sit for a few minutes before applying the next layer of paint. If the primer is wet, each coat may not dry evenly.
Step 6: Pick the correct paint for the item.
Black spray paint is a good choice for painting chrome items. If you are painting a non- chrome item, use black spray paint.Make sure you use the correct paint for the material you are painting. If you are painting black chrome on your car, make sure you have auto spray paint. This is made to stick to cars.All-purpose spray paint is safe for metal surfaces.Shake up the paint can before spraying it.You can apply a smooth layer of paint.
Step 7: A smooth coat of base spray paint is required.
Press the spray nozzle to release the paint when you hold the can of paint from your item.Slowly cover your item with the paint can.
Step 8: Allow the paint to dry for about 20 minutes.
Wait about 20 minutes before applying your next layer of paint to make sure your paint dries consistently and smoothly. If it's helpful, you can set a timer. The paint may not dry properly if you spray it immediately after your first layer. The tip of your finger can be used to see if the paint is dry.Allow the paint to sit for another 5 minutes if it comes off.
Step 9: If you want a dark effect, spray another 1-2 layers of paint.
The darker the chrome will look, the more paint you apply.Wait about 20 minutes between coats.
Step 10: Light is applied to a layer of clear coat.
When your last layer of black paint is done, shake up your clear coat and spray a light layer over your item.Take the can away from your item.If you want to cover each spot, start on the side and work your way across to the right side.It may be difficult to see where you apply the paint, as it may look shiny. The black chrome layer is protected by a clear coat.
Step 11: Allow the paint to dry for about 20 minutes.
Set a timer for 20 minutes after applying 1 layer of clear coat. The first coat should be dry by this time. You can spray another light over top of your item if the first layer is dry.You can check if the paint is dry by touching the side of the item.
Step 12: To saturate your item, spray another 2 light coats of paint.
Apply 2 more coats of paint after the first coat is dry.Allow the paint to dry for 20 minutes before adding another coat.
Step 13: After your light layers, spray a heavy, even layer of clear coat.
If you want to apply a heavy coat, hold your can about 2–4 in (5.1–10.2 cm) from your item, and move the can even slower. For about 5 seconds, aim to cover each spot. The heavy layers help evenly coat your item.
Step 14: Allow the coat of paint to sit for a while.
The heavy coat may need more time to dry as you apply a higher concentration of clear gloss. Before you apply any more paint, make sure the clear coat is completely dry.Depending on the size of your item, you may need multiple cans of clear coat.
Step 15: Let the paint dry for 20 minutes after applying another coat.
After your first coat of paint is dry, spray another layer to cover your item. This adds another layer of protection.
Step 16: Put on a heavy coat of clear paint.
You are ready for your final coat of paint after applying 2 heavy coats.Press down on the spray nozzle when holding your clear paint can.If you cover your item completely, replace the cap on your paint or dispose of empty bottles.
Step 17: The paint should be left to dry for 60 minutes.
If you want your paint to dry, set a timer for about an hour.Check to see if your paint is dry after an hour.Place your finger on the side of your item.Allow your paint to dry for another 20 minutes if there is any sticky substance left.
Step 18: After the item is completely dry, replace it.
You can show off your new black chrome finish after you reassemble your items.Attach your emblems back onto their posts on the front of your car.The rims can be put back on the tires.
